Expats' exodus as Brits give up on north Cyprus

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE • Tue, Aug 21, 2012

BRITISH expatriates are leaving the north of Cyprus in record numbers according to reports in the Turkish Cypriot media.

Economic difficulties, bureaucratic obstacles, poor utilities, animal welfare and increasing electricity prices are cited as the main reasons for the exodus of British retirees.

Kibris reports a surge in homes put on sales by expatriates, most bemoaning that they are fed up with being ignored by the administration with “endless pointless bureaucracy.”

Chubby Cevdet, the owner of a restaurant popular with British residents said: “Life for Brits living here can be challenging, no one listens to them,” he said.

“The British Pound was hard hit ... They want to escape. There are always problems with electricity and water, but they can never get these problems solved,” he added.

The recession has left some Brits trapped because their foreign property has lost value at the same time as their British savings have become worth less abroad.

In some cases, Britons that could not sell their homes have simply locked them up and left.

...not new news, but nice to know it continues for those thinking a free ride on the misery of others was suitable behaviour, never mind as a Brit but as a Human Being.

...cheers to the rest of the world who are not as them, not plunderers, but who continue to stand up against this Ignorance.

The fact that there are so many carpet baggers who have no retirement savings tells you a lot about the desperadoes who tried to make a quick buck from our ethnic cleansing.

Some of the homes owned by my family were offloaded by the Turks to Pommie carpet baggers and now they are not inhabited and need major repairs cleanups.

No one is buying because everyone knows these properties are not theirs to sell because the people they "bought" them from are thieves!

Absolutely ... 100% agree... who in their right mind would now "buy" on the strength of these Photoshopeeeeed Kochans.

Now it must be said that some old codgers, a very few, may not have known the situation when they "bought", let's face it these bleeders may well have thought that CY was a province of Spain or somewhere. Well that's tough, stupidity, lack of research and general ignorance are no excuse, so tough.

It must also be said (and here's a head's up) that, as we know, a great many of the Carpetbuggerers knew exactly what the situation was, that they were taking a chance "buying" goods that they knew to be stolen and these Filthiest of the Filthy have now changed their tune and now are trying to join actions in which to claim they were similarly ignorant of the situation, that also were also innocent victims and many, after years of Licking the tncrtc Bum, defecating on normal morals and the proper laws of decent people and anything to do with the Republic, have done an about turn in the forlorn hope of recovering their losses and have now become critical of rctnctn... well, sod them even more.

If you want to jump in to bed in Rough Donktoshs' Turkish Sewer of tnctrcn, to make a profit on the backs of the ethnic cleansing and deaths and rapings of others... expect to come out smelling of something rotten and with little other than your dirty sofraga... if you're lucky!

That is a secondary and capitalist problem and of lesser importance to the political problem - that all these post-1974 transactions are illegal!
