Err no… I still can’t fathom why a group of one legged people would want to have a race or why a group of blind people would want to aimlessly play five-a-side soccer!

If anything the Paralympics is the world’s greatest extravaganza of those living in denial and in serious need of a reality check.

CY's first and last medal (silver).

That's ok, we came back with at least something.

The winner is Azeri and her time is a new WR. Is there doping control in the paralympics? :?

yes - you could tell the paralympics were begining to be taken seriously when people were found cheating to win, with the well known scandals eg with detection of drugs as far back as 1994 at Barcelona and in power-lifting competions at Sydney in 2000 and the Spanish (non) disabled basketball team scandal.

why does anybody want to have a race or play five a side soccer? why should people with some sort of disability be excluded?

Personally I think the whole concept of professional sport needs a reality check - so much money which in my view could be better spent elsewhere. I don't have a problem if a group of guys want to run races or kick a ball around for their own amusement / benefits of exercise it brings but I have severe doubts about the sanity of those who spend a fortune to watch. it is the modern opiate of the people - all a scheme to part fools from their money.

Didn't many of us do what we always do...??? ... which is to categorise people, in this case to label people as disabled, as being severely limited in their expectations... well, these defiant people have proved those of us who thought that way to be so wrong... so very, very wrong.

Another thing that's also stuck in mind was that so, so many of these Paralympians got their injuries in road accidents, so there but for the Grace of God might be a thought that one or two people on CF might benefit from dwelling on...

Is it any wonder when you've got 1.35 billion people or 20% of the world's population?
