One councillor, the left-winger Petros Constantinou, deplored the action saying...

“At night they beat people up. And by day, they hand out food,” Petros Constantinou, a left-wing Athens city councilman, told the AP.

“They are exploiting people’s misery to fish for votes. They are despicable.”

The rise of the right in Greece is a direct consequence of imperialism and capitalism... I am not against movements of people that are based on equality... but that is not what we are seeing... we are seeing people leaving their own countries dues to the situation created by the imperialism and capitalism... the exploitation of migrants to do the jobs nobody else wants to do is a symptom of capitalist greed on the part of the host country... to then treat them with disrespect is a symptom of fascism... at the other end of the spectrum the brain-drain of most successful migrants damages the countries from which they come... thus migration within a capitalist context is a problem... the left needs to address this issue forthrightly... it is no good simply saying that migration is not a crime... it must point the finger for imbalances in migration squarely at the feet of capitalism... Greece, which did not lead the world into this capitalist mess nor propagate imperialism, at least not the imperialism of the last few hundred years, is caught in a situation whereby people are moving to Greece for economic reasons, and there is not a reciprocal movement of Greeks in the other direction... in short, the movement of people is based not on solidarity and mutual discovery of other cultures, but on the hard realities of capitalism... there are no easy solutions to this... the Soviet model failed and we have yet to work out how to rectify this... but fascism is not the answer... ironically it may be that the economic crisis that Greece is seeing is actually a blessing in that it will focus minds on moving beyond capitalism... only when the world achieves this will migration become a non-contentious issue...

This is a practical measure against the problem from the vast number of illegal immigrants and constant parade of starving (wealthy) Turks which continually seep over the border!

They make no distinctions between Greeks as some of us do! Greek Cypriots are always treated as equal Greeks in every respect, especially by the "nationalists".
