On what basis do Greeks have such an inflated sense of their relative importance in the scheme of things? What have they given to the world & what do they give currently?
I'm assuming that 'Democracy' will be an early call but at the moment the population abuses that ideal by electing all sorts of oddballs & half baked TV celebrities. Besides that it was run by generals in the not too distant past so they're not that convinced by their own idea.
Next up 'Philosophy' perhaps? The art of sitting art ruminating pointlessly on what other people may or may not be thinking.
Can't be an ancient empire as in the league table for that they are in the relegation zone.
Not cuisine as whilst there is some nice grub it pales in comparison with several middle east & mediterranean nations.
I'm not sure what else anybody might suggest but to be sure it won't be plumbing.
Serious answer...
Well to pick up on the "currently" bit Hyder and as far as the Greek Wannabess here on CF go... the picture they give is one the Ugliest of Nationalism, not too different from the rampant and unquestioning "Turkiye is Best" rubbish flag-waving nationalism that we see too much much of in Turkey.
Most of the Good People of Greece would be very embarrassed to read the comments of these people who are trying soooooo hard to be sooooooo Greek. These people have even sunk soooo looooow, have gone so far in their fanatical extremeness, as to feel it a "duty" to run down the Games in several threads, each trying to out-do the other in their bitter and venomous hatred of the Universality of the Games. Now just think what the Real Liberally Enlightened Greeks of modern-day Greece would make of that!!!! So don't take what these idiots say too seriously Hyder.
... oh, one thing that has to be suggested as you ask Hyder, that has to be said about the cuisine (if only cos it's a pet favourite), that must be admired about things Greek in the kitchen, if we talk about readily available, mass-produced things, you can't get a better, thicker, fattier Greek Yoghurt than Greek Yoghurt, well at least not in my experience... lovely stuff.
