Can any one believe this? Ten dead and nine in critical condition from the "roll" of a military vehicle into a bloody ditch"?
I mean, how deep could a drainage ditch be? 100 meters?

Military vehicle en route to Uludere rolls, 10 dead

21 August 2012 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM,

A military vehicle transporting soldiers to Şırnak's Uludere district to provide additional security for former Democratic Society Party (DTP) Chairman Ahmet Türk's visit to the district rolled on Tuesday, killing 10.

A number of soldiers had been sent to Gülyazı village, Uludere, to provide additional security for Türk's visit. The vehicle, carrying 18 soldiers, rolled into a drainage ditch along the main road into the village, just 200 meters outside the village.

Nine soldiers and the driver of the vehicle died in the accident, while the other nine soldiers are reported to have been seriously wounded....................

According to the most recent reports, the injured soldiers remain in critical condition.

Very costly the visit of Mr. Ahmed Turk in the Kurdish district, I would say! Maybe it would be better and safer for both the Turkish PMs as well as the Turkish Army to keep away from there?

Wow, seems that the Turks are now covering up the PKK attacks as "accidents". Because your absolutley right, seriously 10 dead and 9 injured, the whole crew, in an apparent ditch accident.

Turkish military attacks PKK positions in country’s SE

Turkish fighter jets and helicopter gunships have attacked suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeast of the country, security sources say.

The military operation was launched late on Wednesday, targeting PKK positions in Sirnak province, which borders Syria and Iraq.

"Around 2,000 soldiers are involved in the operation. Cobra helicopters ... are bombing targets on the Kato mountain [in Sirnak province]," Reuters quoted an unnamed security official as saying.

The official added that almost 10 F-16 warplanes had been deployed to the region.

On September 2, ten Turkish soldiers were killed and several others wounded in fighting between the army and the members of the PKK in the southeastern province.

Clashes between the Turkish troops and the members of the armed group have intensified in recent months.

Last month, PKK fighters targeted a military convoy and killed five Turkish soldiers in the town of Semdinli in Hakkari province, which borders Iraq.

Turkish troops retaliated and killed 21 PKK fighters with helicopter gunships.

Kurdish prisoners in Turkey end hunger strike (PHOTOS)

Hundreds of Kurdish prisoners have ended a 68-day hunger strike after an appeal from jailed former leader Abdullah Ocalan. The prisoners were demanding more rights for the Kurdish population in Turkey and better jail conditions for Ocalan.

Ocalan was sentenced to death in 1999, but the term was commuted to life imprisonment following the abolition of the death penalty in Turkey in 2002. Most of the prisoners on strike are serving time for alleged links to the PKK, and are deemed terrorists by Turkey and its Western allies.

Turkey’s government has tried to reconcile with members of the Kurdish minority, which makes up nearly 30 percent of the country’s population. However, activists who seek autonomy in the mostly Kurdish southeast say state concessions have not gone far enough.

Ocalan is serving his sentence in solitary confinement on an island near Istanbul.

On Saturday, his brother Mehmet said Ocalan told him that the hunger strike had "achieved its goal.”

Doctors recently warned that many of the strikers were in imminent danger of starving to death. However, authorities have not indicated that the conditions of Ocalan's detention will be changed.

Syrian Kurds start forming their army

Syrian Kurds, who established control over some areas in the north of Syria in the middle of this year, have begun creating an independent army. This information was provided by the internet portal Elaph referring to the head of the Kurdistan National Assembly of Syria Sherkoh Abbas.

"The main goal of our army is to protect the territory of Syrian Kurdistan from any armed intervention, whether Assad's forces or Islamist militant groups," said Abbas.

The U.S. and Western European countries have agreed to provide military and financial assistance in the establishment of an independent Kurdish army, which, in their opinion, could prevent spread of radical Islam in Syria.

Meanwhile more than 120,000 of the buggers are being fed, provided with shelter and medication in camps along the Syrian border of Turkey - at a cost enough to save Cyprus government from the economic crisis it is facing! :)

Meanwhile, the regime in the occupied north cant afford to pay the refuse collectors or the electricity "authority" because Turkey has been spending it all on the war with Syria. Thank Allah that those patriot missiles have arrived. I dread to think how a regional power such as Turkey would defend herself against retaliations from Syria for meddling in her internal affairs.

You are clearly ill informed about the powers involved in the area! Your knowledge of weapons also seems to be a little exaggerated! :) Paetriots are no good for close combat fights or border squermishes between armies. Both Syrian forces and the rebels have gone through greatlengths to prevent Turkey getting involved - a nation they can possibly do what Israel had not done in all these years i.e. enough fire and menpower to pulverize the whole Syrian nation to gravel within few days!

On couple of occasions when a Syrian shell fell into the Turkish villages on the border, the response was immidiate bombardment of the source of fire (Syrian military bases) close to border, resulting in death and wounding of dozens of military personnel and destruction of weapons dumps. Syria did nothing in response because they have more sense than many who write in this forum. Just in case you have not noticed, the biggest supporter of Syrian civilians and the rebels along the border (most of whom are Kurds anyway) has been Turkey.

It reminds me of the time when Saddam attacked them and Kurds fled into Turkey in their hundreds of thousands seeking shelter. The scenario was repeated many times with Syria and Iraq where the Kurdish people were attacked. Not returning back to where they came from and staying in Turkey - breeding like mice, they added to the Kurdish population of Turkey and are the founders of today's terrorists who dare to claim a "Kurdistan" in South Eastern Turkey. A fantasy that will never be realised, reminiscent of the old Greek fantasy that Istanbul will be "Constantinopolis" one day. :D

By the way, the patriots are "anti-missile" missiles, set up against any possible chemical or nuclear attacks by either Syrians or Iranians in the area. There is no telling what a loser of a mad leader can do as last minute revenge - should there be a war between Turkey and Syria, or Nato forces and Iran in the area. It does not take a genius to work out how such a conventional war would end...
