Many countries couldn't afford the Olympics. The UK being the biggest borrower. We all know these are the luxuries of a Greek-gifted civilised world and not the essentials.
It would be more than a fair exchange if the International Community was to be financing every four years the conduct of the games in Greece. if you think of it, the World owes to Greece:
1. Athletics.
2. The Olympic name.
3. The Olympic Games.
4. The Olympic Spirit (truce and all that).
4. The Olympic Flame from which they make a bundle every four years.
5. Most of the main classical events (track, disc, javelin, high jumps, long jumps, boxing and wrestling etc.).
Not to go as far as to their language, arts, theatre, Democracy and all the rest. We have gone through those so many times. It becomes boring to keep repeating them.
On the other hand, considering that the infrastructure exists already since 2004, it would take only 1/100 of what each host country is spending every four years, to simply service, maintain and keep in good condition the existing facilities, instead of constructing new ones every four years and thus burdening heavily each host country and its people with tremendus costs.
But of course, such an idea is out of the question as it would cause tremendous losses to the valrures who are underataking the Olympic projects and who are lending the money for their costs to be paid. So its much cheaper for them and much more profitable, to have some kilintzioiroi, some fifth columnists and some underworld creatures on their payroll to be spreading the anti Greek propaganda of the vultures, i.e., that the games should not be moved permanently to Greece because the Greeks are lazy and crooks and useless and such.
