... and it's particularly appalling that the main target of this hateful scam was the athlete from Germany Natascha Keller, a girl whose family has a very long, proud and honourable tradition in the Olympics., a girl who is described as being humble, down to earth and generally likeable.

Her only "crime" in the eyes of some is that she's from Germany.

This, again from the Chicago Tribune, tells us about this girl and her family...

Keller, one of only a handful of international players whose name has a ring beyond hockey, was named Germany's flagbearer on Wednesday in what was seen as a move to honor her humble character and her family's Olympic history.

Her grandfather Erwin won hockey silver at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Her father Carsten was part of Germany's gold-medal winning team at the 1972 Munich Games, and brothers Andreas and Florian took gold in 1992 and 2008 respectively.

The striker played her first international aged 17 and now, almost 18 years and more than 400 caps later, wants to finish her international career with another Olympic medal.

When he announced Keller as the country's flagbearer, Vesper said she was: "never arrogant, humble and at the same time performance-oriented, down to earth and successful. That's what makes her so likeable."

Sounds like a Nazi sympathiser to me. Still, let bygones be bygones. Let's not make assumptions based on dodgy grandfathers...

Just knew someone would jump on to the '36 Games.

There is no truth in any scammy story that Jesse Owens was a member of the Nazi Party.

Granddaughters of Nazis should be allowed to compete. As long as they don't give Nazi salutes and goosestep at the opening ceremony...

This is how that Chicago Tribune reports a greek politician as saying...

Greek politician Adonis Georgiadis initially tweeted that comments by two foreign athletes were creating a "major issue", but later posted: "Let's not go crazy over this for no reason; it appears the comments by these two athletes against us were made up. Let's see."

Any other links to support what Mr Georgiadis says, that this story is an ugly concoction...????

No, could not find anything more about it. It was posted to me by a friend but by the time I tried to get to her twitter link it was down.

You seem to be quite sure that it WILL happen!

...not so kimon, only my nightmare bigger than life, given the corruption that has been exposed within the Olympic Organisation in the past.

...i don't wish them ill, i would rather that the participants came with open minds and hearts, the Olympics are a terrific show, i wish they were a demonstration of the spirit of Mankind, i see them manipulated for selfish gains, on many levels; a poor reflection on the Organisers for which they should not be blamed, but for which they are responsible.

OLYMPIC HOTTIE GETS THE BOOT FOR “RACIST” TWEET

First of all, the fact that Greece is spending money on state-sponsored athletics at a time when its sovereign debt is dragging the rest of Europe down the drain is unconscionable. If the nation had an ounce of shame, it would have foregone participating in this year’s Olympic Games in London in order to demonstrate its commitment to “austerity.”

Lamentably, Greece wants to continue living the high life with other people’s money … billions and billions of dollars worth of other people’s money.

It also wants to taste Olympic glory … which brings us to the saga of Voula Papachristou, a (former) member of the Greek Olympic team who was banned from participating in the games after she expressed “racist” sentiments on her Twitter page (which is, quite literally, “Greek to us”).

What did Voula say that was so offensive?

“With so many Africans in Greece, at least the West Nile mosquitoes will eat home made food!”

Ummmmm … maybe we’re daft, but we don’t get it (which means that we also don’t get how it’s racist). Are there a lot of Africans in Greece? We don’t know and don’t care … but assuming there are, how is saying so racist?

Apparently it is … and as a result Papachristou and her insanely tight body have both been sent home from the Games.

She’s also offered up the requisite mea culpa to the politically correct establishment.

“I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account,” she tweeted (in English) in the wake of the incident. “I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights.”

Sheesh …

This is a tragedy, people … on par with the impending collapse of the Eurozone. It’s also bad news for NBC, as fewer hotties means fewer ratings …

he raises 2 valid points...to which i agree on both

1...greece shouldn't have gone to the games...spending other peoples money, yet again... 8)
2...the network ratings do need a boost from the hotties...

how come she is blond...i thought greeks were dark...
