So are we going to check all athletes for their personal beliefs before they can compete or is it just that she was dumb enough to use twitter?

Personally I think Golden Dawn are a bunch of thugs and idiots but I wouldn't ban their supporters from competing in sports.

If we're going to go down this path then all people with offensive beliefs should be banned and that includes those who believe that southern Europeans are beggars and lazy scum.

Personally, I think the German and British tweets are more offensive. The fact is that many Greeks are suffering real hardship during the current depression and some are going hungry hence the number of soup-kitchens in Athens. If someone made a joke about Ethiopian athletes eating all the food at the Olympics during the Ethiopian famine there would be outrage.

Let's move the Olympics back to Athens permanently. Let's build them once and build them properly. Why not use the hundreds of millions of dollars countries pour into expensive lobbying to secure host rights and instead invest them in a creating a permanent home for the Games in Athens. It would create a new and ongoing industry for the moribund Greek economy, stimulating economic growth and jobs. We could hold the Games more regularly and help solve the euro crisis in one fell swoop. It's time to take the Olympics home, and leave them there.

Re yatharo! Why should the Greeks pay for an international facility for the Olympics? Of course the IOC should pay. They make a fortune from TV and sponsorship rights.
