REFUGEE Related Question

Postby humanist » Sat Jul 21, 2012 11:17 pm

Does the RoC consider TC's who lived in the now current Free area of Cyprus, but moved to the now occupied area after the 1974 events as refugees?

Would these people be entitled to government grants to build a house on their land in the Free area should they choose to return?

Do you mean like help them renovate so that they can sell at an inflated profit or rent them out to tourists, whilst they carry on enjoying a free run on GC properties in the north?

- I think some of the TCs in the occupied areas use their old homes as holiday homes already. Probably stay in them whilst waiting to have free laser eye surgery or some orthodontic treatments courtesy of the RoC.

You see this is where I just can't understand you GIG... do you think you are going to annoy the TCs so much that they will spontaneously uprise against the occupation and go back to learning Greek?... I bet even Chirstofias cannot speak Turkish well enough to do that...

Greekisland girl

No that is not what I meant.

I was thinking about how to encourage TC's to move to free areas and reclaim their land, that way the people solve it themselves, they benefit and that means there are less TC's in the trnc to validate the current Turkish occupation. ROC can then provide further evidence to UN that this is TUrkish Occupation and action need to be taken to ensure the freedom of the small Island Nation of Cyprus ... the jewel of the medteranian

What could possibly be the attraction in moving to a small hovel, which they will have to work to repair, in a place they will no longer be familiar with? In return, asked to give up something bigger and more spacious with which they are now comfortable?

I'm sorry humanist, but being a realist I don't think appealing to their sense of loyalty, self-worth or morality is going to do it now, since separation has not pricked their consciousness all this time.

There's only one way we are going to extract them from their comfort zones and that is with force. When the time is right.

anyways I didn't get the answer to my question.

perhaps people don't know their options. I cannot fathom at the destruction they have set for themselves either, rather than taking the option of being part of a successful althoguh now broke society, rather than living isolated in the same country enjoying less on the back of others rather than living alongside doing just as good on your own strengths

I would hazard a guess that they are not counted as they have the ix month residence thing to get back property, do GC refugees have similar six month to qualify for grants etc?

MGCN I am thinking in spirit of reconciliation perhaps the RoC can support displaced people of both dominant communities. Ultimately it is the RoC that will have to foot the bill in an event of Reunification.
