You are right that you do not know anything about Cyprus history.

1974 was not an invasion. It was a relief mission carried out by the Turkish army to prevent the Turkish Cypriot people being butchered by their Greek Cypriot ' brothers'.

Please do some research on the internet as everything is there nowadays to inform you what actually happened back in those dark days.

Please don't be angry, as you have read above I don't know much about the history. But I was talking about the sadness of war.
I believe it was an invasion not a relief mission as you put it. After all when people are losing/lost family, land and a way of life is not a relief to those who suffered.

I, for one, welcome the spirit of the message and would like to contribute by sharing a link to a documentary about missing persons whose message is similar.

Thank you for educating me on that fact, I didn't know that it was intervention. As the guy said above I need to read about the history, but even then would i really, truely understand it all? maybe not.
And you are correct in saying I didn't create the thread to upset, belittle, hurt or start a squabble.
The spirit of the message is for everyone who shares a human compassion for the lost, broken world we live in.
I hope the missing will be found and be reunited with their family, friends and loved ones. Or at the very least to be able to grieve and burry they husbands, mothers, brothers, sisters and children. After all the things that tear us apart are/can be the same thing that pulls as closer together for the good.
If we can't live together then what will be come of us all? if we don't have love and compassion we have lost something very fundamental in ourselves.
if we don't have these things, then man with all is greatness has NOTHING. :(

Now i don't know anything about the history of Cyprus, but as a human being I want to say how sorry Iam that so many people lost their lives, home, and family.
R.I.P for those who died, and for the missing to be reunited with loved ones. For the families still waiting and not knowing what happened to find some peace in their hearts and soul, even if it is to grieve and have a proper burial for those who loved and still love that special person/s who is now gone from your life's.
My love, heart, and respect goes out to all of you today.
I hope one day Cyprus will be free to live in harmony, and to walk on the other side of the Island and enjoy the beauty of your Island wish belongs to you.
Warm regards my Cyprus friends.
Theodosia.

excellent sentiments and well expressed.[/

for every human who has died in war, is a great loss to all. As i see it the world has now changed because of it, and what i mean is this....A child that could have been born will not be, a parent will never be, a grandparent will be lost because the child was never born, who in turn could have been a parent and later a grandparent.
Who's to say what wonder they could have brought to this world, but alas we will never know!

Good reply to this propagandist, Theodosia. It's clear you are affected emotionally by the sad history of this day.

Let's not make it 39 years ...

Turkish troops and alien intruders out of Cyprus! Now!

What actually happened was an invasion that resulted in 1000s of deaths and the ethnic cleansing of 100s of thousands of people, something which was a Turkish plan since the 50s.

Everything else is nothing more than Turkish lies and lame excuses. No TCs were killed in 1974 until the day of the Turkish invasion. Those relatively few TCs that were killed in 1974 were killed only after the Turkish army invaded Cyprus.

What have i started here? so much anger, passion, pain and loss and 38 years later the feelings are well expressed in the posts.
The Irish still have this anger too as the English took/stole part of our land that I believe rightly belongs to Ireland and not England.
the trauma will be felt for many generations to come for the Greeks who did lose part of their land when before they could roam freely on any part of the Island. But this argument will continue, sadly for us all who would like/love to have a peace of some kind.
