What does it mean?
It means as much as everything else over the decades that Turkish Cypriots were hailing as “unprecedented”.
From a plane that landed at the occupied airport, to a singer that sung in the “TRNC”, to a ship that docked at the Kyrenia port, to a foreign politician that paid a visit.
It’s easy to get carried away with isolated incidents and assume that a new dawn is on the horizon for the Turkish Cypriots especially when you forget that at the very core of the Cyprus problem lie powerful, unyielding, and permanent UN resolutions that always have the last word.
Furthermore, with the RoC’s firm relationships with permanent UNSC members like China, Russia, and lately Israel that can influence the US, it looks very unlikely that the current status will change to Turkey’s favor.
Is this finally the end game?
No, I don’t expect the world to end just yet if that’s what you meant.
