Hello havent you been around for the last 38 years Turkey does not recognize you so they wont talk to you....

Thank God for that. Making Turkey a discussion partner would be another terrible mistake of our foreign policy. Turkey is THE CP. You can not negotiate with a "problem". You must try to eliminate it.

Is this more of that famous Greek methodology "ignore it, it will go away"

Not at all. Its the methodology according to which you identify the problem, you isolate it (that has been done already) you quarantine it (like a computer virus) and you summon the necessary means and recources (UN, EU, Alliances etc) to resolve/kill/eliminate it.

Cool are we really that clever?

No "we" just WE. YOU are not included in the group.

Greek Cyprus rejects Turkish minister's invitation to match

ISTANBUL

September/03/2012

Greek Cypriot officials have rejected an invitation extended by Turkish EU Minister Egemen Bağış to President Demetris Christofias to come to Istanbul to watch a football game match between Turkish and Greek Cypriot opposition this fall.

Bağış had used Twitter to invite Christofias to watch Turkey's Fenerbahçe take on AEL Limassol in the Europa League on Nov. 8, adding that he would buy Christofias a cup of coffee after the game.

But Greek Cypriot spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou said today that the Twitter invitation was "not something that suited a minister," broadcaster NTV reported on its website.

"Mr. Egemen Bağış is putting forward a frivolous invitation to a football game. Such things do not suit a minister and Turkish politics would be lacking a serious attitude if such acts are condoned,” Stefanou said.

The spokesperson said Christofias was not seeking to visit Istanbul "to have fish by the Bosphorus as portrayed by the media," but sought to speak with the Turkish leadership to express his visions on a possible solution to the Cyprus issue.

Stefanou, however, did extend a formal invitation to Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu to watch the clubs’ other match on Oct. 25 in Nicosia. "Eroğlu is welcome to watch the game between AEL and Fenerbahçe, should he wish to do so. Christofias and Eroğlu can watch the game as citizens of Cyprus in their common land."

This is the thing with politics and politicians. I wish these guys could think outside of the box and accept the invite and turn up for the game, the fish and the coffee and look them all in the eye and tell them "guys, we want a solution with our compatriots the TC's. You are the stumbling block in the negotiations, you are not wanted nor welcomed by both the GC's and TC's. Please do the decent thing, take your army and your settlers and get out of Cyprus".

...don't you think such a personal invitation would have more meaning if Erdogan himself had sent it, personally, perhaps by phone?

please Mr-from-NG, President Christofias is quite correct in his response, Mr. Bagis gave him the opportunity to do so; a nice sentiment perhaps, but not serious.

From what i heard it was an invite via tweeter, not even an honourable one. Toffee should have just told him straight, fuck off clown. Simples, these arrogant turkish arseholes think they are somebodies, may they all go to hell and take various pseudo GCs with them.

Another opportunity missed, Bağış played the off the record card but the GCs yet again due to their stuck their own arse attitude missed the chnace to tell Turkey what they want. This yet again shows that the GCs are not really interested in finding a solution.

You guys are just hypocrites, you 'claim' not to recognise the RoC and yet you invite, unofficially, via tweeter the President to some football game to do what exactly, watch you wank over yourselves.

Bagis is a clown, no one takes this moron seriously, Toffee would have been lowering his standards to accept and then give the turds the idea that we need them. I think it is you that needs to get you heads out of your arses, you need us and until you start behaving you can stay where you are.
