Armenian Genocide Denial Back On In France

Postby bill cobbett » Sun Jul 08, 2012 1:28 am

Those who thought that the departure of Mr Sarkozy would lead to an improvement in relations between France and Turkey are gonna be soooooo disappointed cos the new French President, Mr Hollande, is determined to press on with a criminalisation of genocide denial.

French President Hollande vows new Armenia 'genocide law'

Armenians say up to 1.5m people were killed by the Ottoman Turks in 1915-16

French President Francois Hollande has said he plans a new law to punish denial that the 1915-16 killing of Armenians was genocide.

....................................

"Francois Hollande has again expressed his willingness to propose a bill designed to curb the denial of the Armenian genocide, as he had said during his campaign and even before," the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organisations of France (CCAF) told the AFP news agency.

Erdogan thought he can sweet talk Hollande into forgetting about the Armenian Genocide bill with his high praises of Hollande, with invites for state visit and lifting of Turkish "embargoes" on France, which I'm sure the French have been suffering (not at all  ) as a result in the last few months!

I must admit that I was tempted to post this under the Jokes section or the "Bagis clown thread".

Bağış reminds France their national motto.....
ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News

August/28/2012
………………

Bağış called on the French, who take great pride in their state founded on the worthy precepts of “liberté, égalité, et fraternité” (liberty, equality and fraternity), to reexamine their understanding of their own national motto………

“Turkey does not know what genocide is. Turkey knows the phrase ‘peace at home, peace in the world,’ as the founder of our republic, [Mustafa Kemal] Atatürk said.

We try to provide peace all around the world; we try to give love,”
Bağış said.

“There was no colonial system in the places where we had been before,” he said, in an apparent reference to France’s colonial past. “There had always been prosperity and tolerance in the places that we went…….

We hope that Turkey will be a means for the European Union to get out of the mental abyss it has fallen into.”

Well here are some recent examples of tolerance, prosperity, equality, fraternity etc, etc.

......The 12-month period for minority foundations to apply for the return of properties expropriated by a 1936 proclamation ended yesterday, with 56 minority foundations applying for 430 immovable properties…….

“There are 49-50 Armenian foundations [in Turkey]. I think there is not enough time available for all of these foundations, but I hope they will do their best with good intentions in the future,” Gedikpaşa Armenian Church Foundation Chairman Harut Şanlı said.

Arsonists attempted to set fire to a cemevi (Alevi house of worship) in Istanbul’s Kartal district, a day after the homes of 25 Alevi families were marked by unknown people in the same neighborhood, an Alevi association has claimed.

Ali Kenanoğlu, the chairman of the Hubyar Sultan Alevi Cultural Association, said the tables, chairs and other goods in the garden of the cemevi were set on fire Aug. 24 at around 4 a.m. The fire was put out by firefighters before it reached the inside of the cemevi.

Not only the Armenian Genocide bill was always going to be back, much to Erdogan's displeasure, but now, it is also going to be in the French School's History Books.

So much for Turkey's threats and so called "embargoes" on France.

I wonder if Erdogan has already cancelled Hollande's State visit to Turkey yet?

I bet Erdogan wished Sarkozy was still the French President. At least he was much taller than Sarkozy, which no doubt fed Erdogan's ultra inflated ego and superiority complex.
