A special thanks from President Christofias to those Turkish Cypriots who made it to the opening ceremony tonight and one day we will all celebrate in the reunion of our country.

...chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Ozkan Yorgancioglu, Sonay Adem, Ali Erel, Kudret Ozersay, Ahmet Barcin, Izzet Izcan, Murat Kanatli, Alpay Durduran, Sener Elcil, Ahmet Kaptan and some Turkish Cypriot journalists have been invited to the ceremony.

Someone should tell those twats to go F themselves. Hark at these bloody hyporites, they rob a honset man and then have the cheek to complain to the judge that the man wasn't carry enough for them to steal. Go ask the F question to your motherland you pricks.

As far as I am concerned, they should be encouraged to hold such demonstrations every time EU officials visit Cyprus and even make them as noisy as possible. And hope that our government and the media will make sure that they travel all over the globe!

I would even like to see TCs with such banners to have a permanent presence outside the Presidential building or the EU presidency offices for the whole duration of our presidency. And to even hold marches, demonstrations, concerts etc in Nicosia, on a regular basis jointly with GCs. That is when guys like Halili and Lordo will really be ounting the days remaining till 31/12/12 one by one

Let me get this straight. They're protesting to Barroso and the EU to put pressure on Turkey to leave Cyprus?

Why not just protest against Turkey in the occupied areas? What is wrong with these people? Are protests banned in the occupied areas?

If things are as bad as they claim for the TCs why don't they act to help themselves? Instead of expecting the rest of the world to save them from the results of their own stupidity?

I suspect only a small portion of TCs are not happy with the current state of affairs… probably the non "civil servants"!

A proud moment in Cyprus’ history...

A proud moment in Cyprus’ history

CYPRUS last night launched its six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the EU with a symbol-laden inaugural ceremony at the site of the ancient Curium amphitheatre.

The ceremony got underway just after 8pm, allowing Europe's great and good to enjoy the sunset in a dramatic setting.

It began with Cyprus’ national anthem followed by the “Ode to Joy,” the anthem of the European Union....
