The only minor difference being that unlike the common cold, cancer metastasizes!

a cold is not a disease, and rarely kills you. And the treament for cancer makes you ill not just while you are having it, but has lasting effects many years later.

Cancer is usually a disease of old age - and since something has to kill you, sadly that is just another factor. We were told it was a 1 in 3 chance that you would die from a cardiac problem, 1 in 3 from cancer and 1 in 3 from any other thing. But die we will.

Theodosia, I am sorry to hear you have had personal experience of breast cancer and I hope things are as OK as they can be for you. Do you feel this has made you a little morose, morbid and questioning life?

what has changed is that so many more people are getting cancer and a lot of them at a very young age, it no longer is an age illness. I saw woman who were 26 years old, a lot of them in their 30s and 40s...i was 46 don't smoke, drink, or do drugs ate healthy was a size 10 and looked very fit for 46.
yes it has changed me but its far to long to expain it all here....I found out who my friends were, who cared and who didn't. how others treat you and how you see yourself changes, not just your body how it looks now and the pain you feel, it still hurts and is very raw even 6 years later.
having a lot of tests is very scary and the waiting ..then going into that room having no idea if the doctor is going to give you bad news or not. not telling your family so you don't scar them ,but having to go alone and then wait 2 weeks...what a life!
it has made me question life very deeply....and i wonder if i would have led my life another way, like now i say no if i don't want to do something rather then saying yes just to please someone. All the people i helped over the years where not there for me, so i learned a very hard lesson.
the man i was in love with...well when i told him i never heard from him again. so how you be the same person after that.    here is a photo of me 6 months before i found out, shocking how well i look considering i had cancer. I
