Do Turkish Cypriots want a United Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Alexios » Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:44 pm

I might mix up the newspapers, because as you said we never have a chance to read them. But still this post was just written to insult Turkish Cypriots imo.[/quote]

I agree. But your disgust,as mine should be towards the poster and not Politis.Rafaella, propably a young lady, knows nothing about, or chooses to ignore the period 1963-1974.If she is ignorant, then she is not to blame but our educational system. If she knows and pretends not to then she is not worth bothering with..

Rafaella does not bother with Turkish Cypriots' pain. What only matters for her is the lands and properties G.Cs left in the North, which is just one part of the overall problem she keeps ignoring.

If I was a Tcs, I wouldn’t give a s*** if I am considered a citizen of the recognized state of Cyprus or the puppet state and if my leader was Tassos or Talat. These are their problems, not mine. My concerns: my family and my everyday life would have been so well organized and settled that could easily look like we’ve won a lottery ticket.
All this “isolation” stuff that I am suppose of going through, do not affect me.
What’s the difference if I travel from Larnaca or Tymbou airport?
What if I make my imports/exports from Famagusta, Larnaca or Limassol port? Distances in Cyprus are not long. All these regulations belong to the politicians who seem to be they are the only ones in isolation.

Well, If I was a Tcs I wouldn’t have any problem if I was under this situation for the rest of my life. I would be grateful to those who let the years go by without doubting my own “privileged regime”…

There is some truth to it up to this point, but he is using them to come to a completely wrong conclusion.

We need to remember that it was the TCs who voted to change the current status. GCs preferred to keep it indefinitely to in order to achieve a better solution in an uncertain future. It might be very easy to explain everything with the Turkish selfishness, but its not true. We need to remember that 40-50 thousant TCs who would be displaced by the Annan Plan voted yes in the referandum. We are pretty much aware how fragile the current situation is. I think GCs will also start seeing it.

If my opinion counts at all, I agree entirely with Alexios on his judgement on "POLITIS". In fact this paper is like an oasis in the desert, if I might say so.

Regarding the article itself I would say that it is a sarcastic one directed at those GC's that voted "no" telling them that the situation now is potentially worse than it would have been had we accepted the Plan. I am not sure who wrote it because I could not retrieve the February issues of the paper.

Politis is a newspaper funded by the Americans and one of its main objectives is to throw mud at anybody that goes against what the USA orders (e.g. Annan plan).

The only truly independent and objective newspaper in Cyprus is Phileleftheros. All the rest (including politis) are funded by parties and special interest groups.

I am old enough to have lived through successive governments since the mid 70s and what i can say about Fileleftheros is that it has always generally supported the government in power...

You are right simply because Cyprus Mail does not reach so many people.I would say that an english internet eddition of Politis is a must but you understand creating a page is a matter of cost. What i would really like to see is a true bicommunal daily meaning an ever bigger cost and not only...Some times i wish i was a millionaire..:))

Alexios,
Everything comes down to cost finally,I suppose.A true bicommunal daily...now that's a great idea.It will have to be in English, for practical reasons, which will make its appeal limited.Unless,it is a weekly and only appears online.Food for thought,Alexios.
