We heard about the municipal workers in Occupied Nicosia striking cos they had not been paid for weeks a while ago. Promises were made by the Illegal Regime to settle the outstanding pay and to clear the streets of mountains of rubbish. Well it ain't happened and now the bodies of the deceased are remaining unburied.
Unsurprisingly the Illegal Regime has broken its promises to pay municipal workers and to clear the streets of Occupied Nicosia of the mountains of rubbish that have been building up for the past three months. The workers have remained unpaid and they are now desperately seeking alms from the faithful outside mosques.
The rubbish is festering in the 40 degrees of the Nicosia heat causing gut-wrenching stenches which has led to a situation which is described as making life unbearable. Untreated sewage finding its way in to water courses, has led to an explosion in rodent and mosquito numbers with real fears of an epidemic leading many people to abandon their homes and move in with relatives elsewhere.
The deceased are also being left unburied.
Some 100,000s TL in electricity bills remain unpaid by the Municipality.
The problems are reported to be caused by lack of money in the "Municipal" account and there are accusations of mis-spending by the "Municipality" with the public money lost to corruption through improper tenders for projects by and for the benefit of senior members of the Regime.
