President Dimitris Christofias, left, shakes hands with the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy at the presidential palace in divided capital Nicosia, Cyprus, Monday, May 28, 2012. Van Rompuy is Cyprus for one-day official visit.

The EU Council presidency is a fundamental feature of our Union and must be fully respected by all, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said on Monday, referring to Turkey.

In statements he made after a meeting he had with President of the Republic Demetris Christofias, Van Rompuy said that during the meeting he was briefed of recent developments in the Cyprus UN led talks, which aim to reunite the island divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

“The EU continues to attach utmost importance to the continuation of the negotiations and calls on both sides to make every effort to pave the way for a comprehensive settlement”, he said, adding that the “status quo is in no one’s interest”.

Strange isn't it? No Halil, no Mehmet, no Ali, no Jusuf. Wonder why. :? Maybe you can educate me?

Now then. What was it you was saying about dogs and sausages?

When are you old EOKA scum going to realise that Currium is on the SBA and hence BRITISH.

All the murders you committed in the past have achieved absolutely nothing except lots of you suffering on the gallows after being tortured.

You have been allowed to use it for your stupid tin pot ceremony under sufferance and the UK will supply the security as you are incapable.

The whole thing is a stupid meaningless charade from which you will achieve nought except alot of expense which a bankrupt little country can ill afford.

The Germans are totally fed up with you and classify you in the same bracket as your lazy lying Greek mates.

We are all waiting to have a good and that is guaranteed !

Only 1 day to the FREAK SHOW !!.....So exciting !

Chancellor Angela Merkel tete- a -tete with Christofias

President Christofias held Friday a tete- a -tete meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The meeting, which was held upon a request by the German Chancellor, took place before the commencement of the deliberations of the second day of the European Council Summit, here in Brussels.

During the meeting, Merkel wished every success to the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU and expressed Berlin`s readiness to stand by Nicosia and offer its help where needed.

According to reliable sources, the German Chancellor expressed her discontent as regards Turkey’s stance towards the Republic of Cyprus and more specifically towards the role of the Presidency of the Council, which is a fundamental institutional feature of the EU.

Merkel asked to be informed about Cyprus` main priorities during its six monthly rotating EU Presidency. President Christofias stressed that Cyprus would seek cooperation with all its partners, working as an honest broker without any hidden agenda.

President Christofias placed emphasis on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014 - 2020, saying that the Cyprus EU Presidency would do its utmost to have negotiations proceed on time. He also referred to Cyprus` priorities as regards social cohesion, growth, the Common Agriculture Policy and the South Neighborhood Policy.

The German Chancellor told President Christofias that for Germany it is important to have the MFF be concluded on time.
