Anti-Fascist Festival Nicosia Tonight

Postby bill cobbett » Thu Jun 28, 2012 3:36 am

An anti-fascist festival is organised for today Thursday 28th June at the Konstantza Moat, underneath the OXI roundabout, central Nicosia (Free Part thereof) from 6pm onwards.

The organisers write...

We have all witnessed the boom of fascism after the elections in Greece. Golden Dawn, who took 21 seats in the Greek Parliament has launched a massive - shameless attack on everyone, immigrants, leftists, workers showing its true face.

Since the day of the Greek elections ELAM is now officially identifying with Golden Dawn. ELAM members went out and celebrated the results of the elections with swastikas and meander flags in Makarios street, imitating the like-minded Golden Dawn members, terrorizing any isolated and wretched immigrant who happened to be in their way.

They fully embrace the murderous actions of the fascist gang Golden Dawn; from Hitler’s crimes, to even the assault from one of their members of Liana Kaneli, a Communist Party MP and the attack on Doura, an MP of SYRIZA in Greece.

Since 2010 we have witnessed many attacks from ELAM. They attacked a Nigerian student on July 20, 2010, Greek Cypriot anti-racists and immigrants, and stabbed a Turkish Cypriot musician at Rainbow Festival in November 2010, they even attacked and injured Greek Cypriots that looked like immigrants (!) outside the APOEL fun club in November 2010 and the lottery ticket seller of Ledras Street on March 2011. The last week there have been reported attacks on Egyptian and Bulgarian immigrants in the area of Larnaca. The method and set up of the attacks photograph the action of Golden Dawn in Greece and other assaults done by ELAM in Cyprus.

As the crisis deepens, the fascists / nationalists will find more excuses to propagate their hatred. They use problems that the capitalist system and the global financial crisis of capital creates, such as unemployment, migration, poverty, and trying to convince people that its the immigrants to blame for everything. They use the same fascist - Nazi methods used by Hitler towards the Jews.

The media are trying to "keep a balance" by calling members of ELAM equally on panels like they are just another political opinion!

At the same time on these panels they call the so called "progressive politicians" of EDEK, even of the European Party - EUROKO who in the previous time participated in the racist frenzy against the alleged "illegal immigrants" to earn votes, but by doing that, they actually pushed people towards ELAM!

The propaganda and the manipulation of the neo-liberal right wing parties against the immigrants was accompanied by a simultaneous attack on the vested rights of employees in benefits and wages, lowering our standard of living. In that way they were creating more favorable conditions for the adoption from the people of the slogans that can be easily be converted into a racist and nationalistic frenzy, attacking foreign and local workers and all progressive and leftist forces.

Fascism and nationalism have hurt our island irreparably; its results are seen on a daily basis, as they brought the war and occupation.
The fascists must not revive, this development will result in tragic consequences in our country once again, as also throughout Europe.

Each year Youth Against Nationalism organize a festival bringing together anti-fascist forces of the island so that we can unite and cry FASCISM NO MORE.

This year, Thursday, June 28, from 6 pm till 12 at night, we will be organising the 5th anti – fascist festival and we invite you all to join us.

I happen to know the lad who was the target of this attack, he is half British, half Armenian, born and raised in Cyprus. He must have looked too white.

If AKEL is I don't see why ELAM is not.

Alleged??? Are they legally in the country? Have they entered legally?

.............

Fascism and nationalism have hurt our island irreparably;

While the Communists brought the country to the verge of economical collapse.

its results are seen on a daily basis, as they brought...

.... the need of a bailout and the arrival of the TROIKA

Time for the "Youth Against Communism" to start organizing onother one during which we shall all unite and cry "COMMUNISM NO MORE" "Cyprus for the Cypriots" "Illegal immigrants OUT NOW".

TROIKA? Using Russian words now ELAM boy?
Diverse ideologies merged in 1940 to fight fascism. This will happen again if needed. But most important, do not talk about illegal immigrants. You know nothing about them.

Yes, I will take a stroll, early in the evening. Probably accompanied by some of my TC friends, if that is okay with you.

Communist parties are still illegal in most European countries. I hope the Troika will take care of this.

BTW,I fully agree with Kimon. Good job. :)

The tripartite committee led by the European Commission with the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, that organised loans to the governments of Greece, Ireland and Portugal.
