Surely there is some hope here ???

No!

1. Not as long as Turkey is permitted to be a dominant factor in the play.
2. Because the reasons for which Britain and the US brought Turkey into the game still exist.
3. Because presently, the aim of Britain and of the US is a final settlement which will actually mean partition and legalisation of the Turkish invasion, occupation, settlement etc.

Maybe things will gradualy change now that Israel fears that it will soon be strangled by Muslim fundamentalist regimes all around it with Turkey trying to become the leading power with the help of the US.
Till then don't expect to see any hand shakes others than those meant to help the reporters make a living.

PS 1. How much progress has actually been achieved in the Arab-Israeli relations after the historical hand shake shown above?
PS 2. Have you any idea how many hundreds of handshakes between Greek Cypriot presidents and Turkish Cypriot representatives have been photographed in the past 40 years?

NO!

The politician on both side don't want it.

If there is a solution they will not be able to smoke screen the population with to hide their perks i.e. the President of the RoC earn EUR25,000 more than the Prime Minster of Spain or that an MP in the north earns $45,000 PA.

Sure it can be done here if either (a) The Turkish side accepts that Cyprus should be a free, normal democratic country where the human rights of all citizens are respected, or (b) our side accepts to gift a 3rd of Cyprus to the Turks, legalization of human rights violations and ethnic cleansing and an undemocratic racist system.

It is clear what is the right thing to do between the two, and yet our side has done several compromises to approach the totally unreasonable demands of the Turks.

So if coming to a mutually acceptable solution is something that can be done, then how can it be done? Will the Turkish side suddenly withdraw their unreasonable demands? Or will our side meet even more of their demands, which will result in something even worst than what we have now?

The politician on both side don't want it.

Can you tell me exactly what our democratically elected representatives don't want which is wanted by the majority of Greek Cypriots when it comes to the solution of the Cyprus Problem?

If there is a solution they will not be able to smoke screen the population with to hide their perks i.e. the President of the RoC earn EUR25,000 more than the Prime Minster of Spain or that an MP in the north earns $45,000 PA.

Why wouldn't they? Will the solution agreement include provisions for lower salaries? The Annan plan for example called for several governments and several parliaments for a tiny island like Cyprus. If anything the Cypriot tax payer would have to pay to them a lot more than they pay them now.
