Turkey already knows it has to leave Cyprus. It just doesn't want to leave behind a strong independent Cyprus but one subservient to Turkey's interests via a Turkish controlled client statelet in the north. This is why talks have stalled. Turkey wants to cling onto Cyprus - even after a solution. Which is why a strong successful ROC is the last thing Turkey wants. And one reason why Cyprus' EU Presidency is so objected to by Turkey.

Of course, the ROC has no interest in giving Turkey what it wants - and why the EU Presidency, gas discoveries and closer ties to Israel and the EU are so significant. In the end, a stronger ROC is in the interests of both GCs and all those thousands of TCs who protested against Turkey last year.
