GCs have never been interested in interfering with the identity or religious rights of the TCs or the Maronites or the Armenians. GC opposition to the TCs in the 1960s was not a result of cultural or religious intolerance, but a reaction to the violent and forcible TC campaign to partition the island.

You cannot reduce the Cyprus problem to the issue of TC's rights on the island. What about the rights of the 80 per cent majority who have endured occupation of their island for centuries? The TCs have nothing to fear from democracy. Besides, the issue on the island today is not about minority rights but of the Turkish occupation of the island which is a blatant violation of all Cypriots' rights.

Duh what has religion got to do with it you people want to give Cyprus to Greece thats what triggered of the chain of events which have brought us to where we are today.

You have your rights in tact you cant fool anyone you have stolen our rights and recognition and are solely milking it for all its worth....the TA are here because you gave them cause and reason to arrive and now you give them even more reason to stay as you still want to deny us our partnership rights and force us into minority status in our own country. If you want to get rid of the TA you have to win over the TCs and pretty quick as they have all but lost faith you really want a solution.

Thank you for agreeing with me. Enosis was the excuse Turkey used to partition the island - as you admit. Enosis was clearly directed at British colonial rule and not the TCs. It was not a campaign directed at TCs nor was it designed to undermine the rights of any minorities on the island. In fact, Greece has a pretty good record regarding its muslim minority. Unlike Turkey which has an appalling record of treating all of its minorities.

and now you give them even more reason to stay as you still want to deny us our partnership rights and force us into minority status in our own country.

No-one has 'stolen' your rights but Turkey. TCs are only entitled to rights as ROC citizens. You have no other rights on the island. If you renounce the ROC you renounce your rights. You cannot have it both ways.

Hermes the campaign for Enosis continued for 14 years after colonial rule ended and was the underlying aim of the Junta led Coupists. Thank you however for confirming what others have sought to conceal, namely that the aim of the Eoka struggle was Enosis.

You are otherwise spot on that (at least in the more recent past) the Greek record on minority groups (Linguistic/Religeous) was good and that the current party responsible for the isolated plight of the TSC is the illegal occupying force and its puppet regime, and they way back is through accepting governance by the EU.

You cannot equate the 1974 events with the campaign for enosis in the 1950s. By the late 60s and 70s enosis had minimal support amongst the GC population at large. Besides, the aim of the coup against Makarios - as executed by EOKA B and the Athens junta, with the explicit support of the Americans – wasn't enosis, but double enosis, i.e. the junta and the US were prepared to give a chunk of Cyprus to Turkey if the Turks did not respond to the coup with invasion.

Like I said, GCs have never been interested in interfering with the identity, cultural, religious or educational rights of the TCs. GC opposition to the TCs in the 1960s was not a result of any ethnic or religious intolerance, but a reaction to the armed and violent TC campaign to divide the island. If all TCs were interested in was the protection of their rights, then there would be no Cyprus problem.

I agree with you of course.

Hermes you are living in cuckoo land, the TCs did not wake up one day and demand Taksim it was your enosis dream which triggered off the TCs fight for survival because if left unchallenged for us meant signing our own death warrant.

As for the Greeks track record on minority rights I think you better do a bit more research and look at the Turks who could not call themselves Turks in Thrace.

Who have "sought to conceal" that the aim of the EOKA struggle was Enosis? But 14 years? Nooooo! Makarios, having to depend on the support of AKEL to stay in power, had given up that idea long before that. In fact as soon as he managed to get rid of the Greek army divison in 1967. As for the Junta led coupists. I am not too sure any more! Was Enosis their aim or just stopping Makarios and Clerides from agreeing to a bizonal/bicommunal de facto partition? Certainly that was the aim of Grivas as long as he was alive.

should we buy TC's their airfares to Brussels, so they can remind the world that they stole people's properties and now they want the thieves to be acknowledged for their crimes.

You better do some research about the minorities in Greece as defined by international and bilateral treaties. You will not find any "turkish" minority between them. Look it up. And then lets talk about the minorities in Turkey.

You are so far behind everyone else but the point of the protest has been achieved a divided Cyprus to head a crumbling union how ironic.

To tell the EU that you are 'ghosts' and have no rights under the Turkish occupiers. Very subtle message. But we all knew that anyway.
