How does the RoC place an order for such weapons?
The russians want to give us 13b euros, surely we could spare a couple for these?
What say you guys?

Syria Friday shot down the Turkish Super Phantom jet with the sophisticated self-propelled medium range anti-air Buk-M2 missiles (NATO codenamed SA-11) recently supplied by Russia. Short of time to master the advanced SA-11, the Syrian crews would have called on their Russian instructors to help fire it. DEBKAfile: Moscow and Damascus may have decided to stop the almost daily Turkish air force flights over the Syrian coast for spying on Russian arms deliveries through the Russian bases of Tartus and Latakia.

Kikapu wrote:The same article also points out Turkey's weakness in the area as a "regional power" against Syria after she became the forerunner to get involved in Syria, in the hopes that it would get help from NATO, a repeat of Libya situation with France who had taken the lead in the early days of that conflict, but instead, Turkey finds herself all alone , and after all the bravado expressed by Turkey in the last year or so in sorting out the Syrian President Assad with repeated warnings to him, Turkey is now eating humble pie by the truck loads.
Last but not least, another article about where Turkey has/is gone/going wrong with Syria. What will the West think of Turkey if Turkey does not go forward with their expectations by Turkey getting militarily involved in Syria?
Personally, I think the West is egging Turkey into the Syrian conflict without any support from them, perhaps in the hopes for Turkey getting a bloody nose from it. What do you think, Bananiot?

As you have stated above, that I'm sure this was not the first incursion by the TAF into the Syrian airspace, and I'm sure the Syrians have warned Turkey not to do it. But Turkey thinks they are a superpower so they gave the middle finger to Assad, Erdogan's long time friend. Well, looks like the last incursion was the one that broke the turkey's back and Assad gave the middle finger to his old friend Erdigan and shot the plane down. I'm sure this will be the last incursion into Syrian airspace by TAF.

They had been proposed to the RoC some years back but the RoC settled for another Russian type. I will come back on it later. (Have to consult my archives first).
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said today a jet that was shot down by Syria a day earlier was not a warplane but a reconnaissance aircraft, state television TRT reported.
It was not immediately clear where Arinc, who is one of four deputy prime ministers and also the government's spokesman, was speaking. Turkish media reported the downed jet was an F-4 Phantom, a supersonic jet fighter which can also carry out reconnaissance operations.
