Ejukation - wots 'appenin' in Skool?

Postby supporttheunderdog » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:29 pm

One private school is thought likely to lose a lot of pupils this year to other schools - they have already shed staff and there are some strange stories about mixed age classes. I have also heard a story about the school dismissing qualified and experinced staff . some for downsizing reasons but possibly in favour of retaining some still under some sort of on the job training. There is also a story this school might not have paid NI contributions, which came to light when one dismissed teacher went to claim benefit.

Another school with long waiting lists is apparently open to offers to move Children up the list - I heard a figure of Eu5000 mentioned.

Questions should be asked about any school where to get the required grades parents of otherwise able students need to fork out a fortune for extra lessons after hours, in particular those at private fee charging schools. In some schools some pupils might reasonably require extra assistance, particularly if they are not native Englsih speakers and are new to the curriculum, but when you have some Children with no such issues, it strikes me something is wrong.

I don't know of any British schools were pupils do not pay hefty fees yet still have extra private tutorials.

Thick or rich ....

its a nice little tax free earner for the teachers - they do not of course normally teach their own pupils but it looks some of them find ways to get mates teaching the same subjects at other schools to teach their kids, and they teach their mates's day pupils. mInd I am not surprised at the teachers wanting to enhance their earnings - those in the private schools are often very badly paid, at least compared to the Public sector.

Yup - it's the same the whole world over. Teachers skimping at school and then offering back-up lessons.

It all depends how dumb/rich the parents are ....
