Support CY supermarkets for the benefit of our country.

ooh you'll have Aunty GiG after you for being Anti-Greek for telling us not to shop at Carrefour, which in Cyprus is now no longer a joint venture but a 100% Greek owned Franchise operation.

As for Lidl, they carry quite a few locally made products - e.g. keo!!! Lidl are popular because their prices are good and many of the products are good vale for money and in these tight times no one can afford to refuse a good deal.

For our part we actually mostly use Alpha Mega: is that Cypriot enough? I am all in favour of Supporting local business where possible, which bearing im mind Carrefour is foreign owned ie Greek, makes not using them seem quite a reasonable idea....

Aunts GIG observed that the range was inferior in many respects compared to the French stores. Since the Greek buyout it appears to us to have deteriorated as e.g. the range of dairy products, cheeses and the like seems to have reduced.

Anyone else notice this?

Yes... a few of the products we used to buy are not sold there now and for the last 2-3 months.

Why bother? There are plenty Cypriot supermarkets to buy from.
