I am not necessarily after more supermarkets but better, and at the moment the prospect for that may well lie best with the major foreign chains. Why should Cypriots be denied the same shopping opportunities and the benefits they can bring. If they are however locally owned/run so much the better.

No affiliation, ELOMAS Costco (Madaco & Elomas Distributors Ltd) seem to have got it right with their new supermarket near Larnaka Mercedes service. Prices and shopping conditions are good to excellent and the place is busier than any of the other Larnaka supermarkets. Alternatively our one small village shop sells stuff cheaper than Carrefour.

We are though in Larnaca on a reguklar basis (on the school shuttle run) so I'll see if we can check it out. Where abouts roughly is Merecedes Service? (I run a knackered Nissan - cant afford a Merc) Might be Ok for items that will live for an hour in the car but not for heat sensitive /chilled/frozen items, as we are about 45 minutes from Larnaca. Also Is it any good for things like Rice Milk, and other Gluten Free/Dairy Free items? THis is important for one of my girlies who may have a Gluten/Casein intollerance problem.

Take a cold box with you, I do if I'm not going straight home from shopping.

Blimey, I thought everyone in Cyprus could afford at least one Merc, even if it only comes out of the garage for weddings, christenings, Sunday worship and visiting the future in-laws :o

Postal address, Elomas Costco, 1Europis, Roundabout Koumbos Kalou Choriou Larnaka.

If you know Larnaka the well sign posted store is off of a service road which runs parallel to the main road leading from the K-Plex cinema crossroads to the roundabout for the Airport, Limassol, Kalou Choriou Village, Nicosia and Paralimni.

From the K-Plex cinema traffic lights head out of Larnaka towards Limassol, Kamares viaduct will be to your left after the traffic lights.
Keep going through three more sets of traffic lights, providing of course that they are showing green
As you approach a fourth set of traffic lights and just before the roundabout take the slip road on your left and very very carefully cut across another road feeding the traffic light controlled junction and onto the service road and go straight ahead until you see the Elomas Costco sign, turn left and go straight down to the T junction past the now closed old Elomas store and the new store car park will be straight in front of you. Safer still, from the slip road turn left into the road leading to the 'Go Kart Track and Airport Long Term Parking (if you see these you have gone to far) take the first road (unmade for a few metres) on the right, pass DHL on the left and the store car park will be to the left. Of course if you are entering Larnaka from the roundabout turn right at the first set of traffic lights and carefully right again after making the turn or continue down to the road where DHL are located.

There are other smaller Elomas stores in Larnaka town as well as one in Latsia Nicosia, might be a different franchise/whatever as they don't or did not carry the stock that Elomas Costco does.

Sorry cant comment on the specialist food stuffs but its probably worth a look, avoid Saturdays if you can as its very busy. And as others have already said take a cool box or two. In fact during the summer months don't leave home without a cool box filled with bottled water especially if you have children on board as you never know what can happen, bad enough having car problems or even worse an accident without having a car load of thirsty kids as well.

what? stop at a red light? This is Cyprus!

Could be good location as we come in from Lim so wilbe close to this Junction.

I'll see if I can get the misses to have a look-see after dropping/before collecting our girlies: I am normally pressed for time to get back to the office (in Limassol).

We always have water in the car - not always cool- but we always have some.

Got in to the store last week for quick look/quick shop: they certainly pile it high and sell it cheap - like the way it is possible to buy full cases of some items, ie 14 boxes of cornflakes, not that I want 14 packets all at once. The wife did the shopping there yesterday after dropping the Girlies off at School she told me there were lots of good BOGOFF's.

Never been to Carrefour or Lidl. My suggestion to every Cypriot is to do the same.

Support CY supermarkets for the benefit of our country.
