Ozersay resigns
Published on June 9, 2012

KUDRET Ozersay, the chief adviser to Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu in the Cyprus negotiations, has submitted his resignation, reports from the north said yesterday.

According to the reports, the move comes in the wake of Ozersay’s formation of a new social movement calling for political change in the breakaway state.

It is well know that he and Eroglu were at odds over the Toparlaniyoruz, or the We’re Getting it Together movement.

High on Ozersay’s agenda, is a reassessment of the north’s relations with Turkey. He believes that much of what Turkey does in north Cyprus comes, not as a result of Ankara’s forceful insistence, but as a result of Turkish Cypriot politicians’ failure to clearly express the wishes of the Turkish Cypriot people

questions...
1...is ankara backing him?
2...are errorgluy's days numbered?
3...what's the agenda?

i just can't see ankara not backing him...

At least Ozersay dares to tell a truth that many TCs are in denial of. Ankara's extermination of the Turkish Cypriots nears completion...

He does not hide the fact that time is running out. “This is the last chance for the Turkish Cypriots,” he told the Sunday Mail, adding that “it is a struggle for existence.”
Ozersay’s fears are clear, even though he avoids spelling them out. The uncontrolled Turkish immigration to the north has turned the Turkish Cypriots into a shrinking community that will eventually be swallowed up by the settlers from Turkey and have no say in their future. It would be only a matter of time before they lost the hold on power they still enjoy and become an inconsequential minority of the north’s constantly growing Turkish population.

i think we are seeing the start of new offensive by turkey...obviously errorgluey has become an embarrassment during the talks...

turkey is embarking on a regime change?...no doubt in my mind...ozersay wouldn't dare anything like this without turkey's say so...

what is known about ozersay?...

He did not recognised under Eroglou, that a settlement must adhere to the UN's resolutions.

Very well educated and he does all the talking in the negotiations. Sharp mind and very capable. Above party politics.

Not a politician but obviously adept at using political double talk. The TCs are to blame for not telling Turkey what they wanted! What a crock!

Was he not around a few years ago when Erdo said clearly, on live TV, "what if the people there [the TCs] leave, we have plenty of people to put in their place".

Where was he a few months ago when Davut said: "Turkey would have to be involved in Cyprus even if there was not a single Moslem on the island."

If he cannot perceive a palpable policy of long term desire for control over the whole island, he is not very sharp. If he does not express any opinion over the threat aimed at BOTH communities he is not much of a Cypriot either.

Typical Greek mentality judging before even listening to what he has to say, give the guy a chance you may be beging for him to be elected in a few years time.

boomerang: we are not looking for a new leader in the occupied. the settlers will not vote for him because he is pro TC - the TC vote is out numbered 1:4 settlers .... no chance in hell.

Bananiot if he is such a good talker and with sharp mind ... why have the negotiations ended up in the way that they have. If he was the advisor who did most of the talking surely we should have moved a step closer rather than a step further away.

Nikitas I agree

VP he is not our responsibility, you have chosen to exclude GC's you get what you vote for blame yourselves

I am not asking you to support him just give him a chance by listening to what he has to say. If he is what the old and new TCs want then he will get support as the alternatives have lost a lot of ground and people do not want to vote for them they are all looking for someone else to turn up on the scene and Ozersay might just be that person. As to support I work with a lot of first and second generation Tcs and they are no different from the older TCs like myself.

Plus how do you know that he was not very accommodating and that it was the Gcs who were causing most of the problems that have driven the 2 sides further and further away.
