what would have been the outcome?...civil war for sure but who would have won...

the enosis greek corner, the ones that didn't respect the democratic will of the people OR the patriotic cypriots?...

who would have kicked whose ass into submission...EOKA-B or cypriots...

The TC apartheid regime would have probably been wiped out.

The world would have supported EOKA militarily if they were going to lose but England/America had much to do with this.

Since England/America had much to do with it, the division of the island ended the violence but it also transferred non recognition to the facist Denktash et el regime that is now in suspension only because of Turkey.

Conclusion. We should have welcomed the Turkish Army with roses. And then, the Filth Columnists whould have been apointed as the leaders of the Greek Cypriot Community working hand in hand with the TMT cut throats. No need for this thread to go any further. Message taken. Now that the CY presidency is close, some have decided that it is proper to start legitimizing the illegal occupation and the mafia TMT regime of the North. (Plan B is it called?). Perfect timing indeed. All snakes, insects and other creatures of the "underworld" on the job.

Which invasion are we talking about?

Surely the course to what we have today was started by Turkey's first invasion, bombing and napalming Paphos villages in 1964.

You know there is delusion and there is delusion but this is not it. Considering the same people came to power in 1967 in Greece and the Greek people were unable to remove them for 7 years, what chance did the Cypriot people have to remove this regime. The Greeks should be thankful to Turkey if for nothing else for removing the Junta for them. Unless of course you deluded enough to believe that the Greek people removed them.

So what would have happened. First Sampson would have killed every single Greek Cypriot that opposed him and then he would have asked Dengtash for a Tea and toasted sandwiches party and and perhaps a few glasses of zivania.

Sampson said himself. After one week in power we have 98% of all the lands that Turkish Cypriots had since 1963. This is after 35% of the Turkish Cypriots were ethnically cleansed from their land. Considering there were very few incidences between the two communities between 1968 and 1974, how many of these people actually felt safe enough to return to their land? I am only aware of one person. Is anybody aware of any others?

I personally believe that had the Turkish Army not not invaded, the Cypriot state would have ceded to Greece. I find it hard to comprehend that Makarios changed allegiance from viewing independence as a stepping stone to supporting a truly independent Republic of Cyprus. Makarios made a tactical decision in appearing to support independence amid the junta rule in Athens, with the grand strategy of ENOSIS still at heart. It seems the people who gained from the invasion were Turkey (taking back a chunk of Cyprus) and Greece who finally rid herself of the junta. What a price to pay.

hiya umit...

from my understanding the coup would have collapsed if turkey hadn't invaded...there was a lot of support form the cypriots against the coupists...therefore it would have prevented enosis...

the plan of course was a double enosis all along...and with that inmind i agree with maximus outside powers would have supported the coupists...
