if turkey didn't invade...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Well if all you want to do is find more anti-Greek angles of blame, you should rejoin your Turkish forum.

Most GCs view the first Turkish invasion in 1964 as the start of the RoC's struggles to protect Cyprus and its GC natives. Without that obvious attempt to capture Cyprus and restore Turkish control via the TCs, then neither Makarios nor Greece would have ever seen the need to seek outside help for the next decade to prevent what had become 100% clear - that Turkey wanted Taksim in one form or another.

- Blame the Greeks all you want - bleating sheep clone suffering from scrapie - but a sensible person would be looking at the calamitous string of events which Turkey's 1964 invasion attempt initiated.

An independent democratic republic is preferred to being ceded to Greece, and if it was so, what difference should it make to the citizens or the country with who it wants to better identify and align itself with? Its a free country.

but, it was not an independent democratic republic. The GC's where being persecuted by their TC minority, drunk on their new and disproportionate sense of power.

Arising of concrens about megalist ideas (which include enosis0 SOME OF WHICH ARE STILL PEDDLED BY SOME OF THE GREEK WANANBEE LUNTIC FRINGE HERE, the Tur*s were never going to allow Cyprus to fall under the complete deomination of Greece so any serious attempt at Enosis was always likely to result in conflict and invasion, with some degree of of Turkish occupation. Therefore I suspect the question is a non question as under the circumstances where the vcoup was intened to acheive Enosis there was alwways going to be action by Turkey: it nearly happned in 64,and 67 and as GIG very correctly observes in 1964 Turkey attacked Cyprus, committing war crimes against the cypriot popultaion through the use of napalm etc.

It remains my view that the events of the 60's and 70's culminating in invasion were at least in part caused by those who still sought Enosis and who gave the Turks the excuses they neede to partition and later invade with the first eveil A plan, the Acritas plan , which though not overtly staed was no doubt intended to facilitate Enosis, leading to the crises in 1963/4: I am very well aware that Turkish Taksim seeking elements played their own part by forcing segregation of the TSC communityand TMT (WHICH Was effectively an arm of the Turkish military intelligence) etc took every opportuinity to stoke tensions.

Otherwise Sorry VP but the Turkish government didn't actaually give a toss abiut the TSC when the y invaded: protection of you was just the excuse: one only neds look at the Historical record of Turkey with the Aremnians, the Kurds, etc. to show how little they care about people.

The first invasion by Turkey in 1964 had nothing to do with any wishes for enosis by the GCs. As our friend Lordo described, the first Turkish invasion in 1964 was due to Turkey objecting to the proposed 13 amendments which would have democratized the RoC. Turkey invaded to carry out Taksim and continue control.

As Lordo said: 6th of December Turkey refused the amendments (1963). The first Turkish invasion followed a few months later. Once Turkey made her intentions clear with this failed attempt at an invasion, a string of events were set in motion to rally support for protecting Cyprus from this unveiled threat.

IGNORE HIM.

He is on a very dirty is mission this time. In view of the CY presidency he is trying to spread, through the net for the first time in history, a discussion about a civil war in Cyprus which, of course, never occurred. The conclusion to which he is trying to lead the discussion and the impression he is trying to create to those who don't know the facts, is that the Turkish invasion did not just "save" the Turkish Cypriots from extinction, as the Turks claim, but it also saved the Greek Cypriots, having helped the "lawful" Greek Cypriot forces to win the "civil war" against the coup supporters and of course, against Greece. Filthy, isn't it? Even the turkish propaganda never used such an argument till today. But who knows? Maybe this topic is just the begining?

PS. Such was the "civil war" climate dduring the invasion that EOKA B militants and the "Epicouriko Soma" of Makarios faught the Turks side by side when the invasion started.

...there was no Civil War, simply because the populace did not support the aims of the Junta. the Junta failed in Cyprus because it assumed that they would have this support; and failed miserably within days.

...as for Turkey and its intentions, i think that this is quite clear. we all welcomed a saviour from the coup, England failed as a Guarantor, or was an accessory to a wider plan, Turkey on the other hand presented herself as this saviour, only to reveil through her motives, (once again), the self-serving nature of their acts.

...i hate to say this, but foreign interests are a big part of the misery that was the cause of such a disgraceful representation of who we are as Human beings.

You may think I exaggerating? Let me give you some clues:

Have you ever seen ANY post of the two Filth Columnists of this forum (and especially the one from the "underworld") to be contradicting the turkish propaganda or to be producing evidence about the turkish violations against Cyprus etc? No! Have you seen any of their posts being an answer to unsubstantiated allegations of Turkish or TC forum members? NO!All of their posts are either pro-turkish or (most of the time) viciously anti-Greek. Whenever they respond to the post of a TC or Turkish participant it is to agree with them on everything that they say against Grivas, EOKA and Greece. What is worse is that most of their posts are REPRODUCTION of the turkish propaganda in everything, starting from the reasons of the intercommunal conflict, going through to 1964 and 1974. That is why I believe they should be ignored. So that the threads they start are killed as soon as they are started.

Cyprus Denounces 1974 Military Coup

July 16, 2011 | Filed under: Geopolitics

Cyprus pays tribute to all those who lost their lives defending the Republic during the 1974 military coup against the democratically-elected President of Cyprus.

The military coup against the first President of the Republic, Archbishop Makarios III, engineered by the military junta then ruling Greece, was followed five days later by the Turkish invasion, which resulted in the illegal occupation of 37 percent of the Republic`s territory and its de facto division.

On Friday, at 08.20 local time, the very time the coup occured, sirens were heard.

An official memorial service for those who lost their lives defending the Republic was held this morning at Saints Constantinos and Eleni Church in Nicosia, in the presence of Cyprus President Demetris Christofias.

Minister of Agriculture and Defense, Demetris Eliades, delivered the eulogy.

Wreaths were laid at the tombs of those killed during the coup, defending the Republic.

At a special plenary session, due to take place at noon, local time, in the presence of President Christofias, the House of Representatives will condemn the coup and the Turkish invasion and pay tribute to the people who lost their lives during the most tragic events in the country’s recent history.

A special event to condemn the crime against the Cyprus Republic will be held at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, 19 July 2011.

The event was originally scheduled to take place tonight, however due to the tragic explosion last Monday at a naval base, it has been postponed.
Political parties have issued press releases denouncing the coup and the Turkish invasion.

and you call yourself a cypriot...a patriot huh?...
these people died defending the republic while your hero grivas and co along with you and your ilk of today are fighting to dissolve the republic....you cyprus traitor...

is there a name list of the real patriots defending their homeland from the greek invasion?...is there a name list of the scumbags we can curse to eternity?...

now try answering and stop consulting your balls for predictions as to what everyone thinks...
