Typhoid Warning in Occupied Cyprus

Postby bill cobbett » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:12 am

According to a summary in CNA, the newspaper Kibris is warning of an outbreak of typhoid in the Occupied Areas due to contamination of water courses by sewage which, despite warnings, the Illegal Regime has not acted to contain.

This is how CNA summarises the report...

"...Turkish daily Kibris newspaper (06.06.12) reports that due to the sewer waters which starting from occupied Mia Milia village reached occupied Famagusta through the Pediaios river, serious health issues have been created in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to the paper, which cites information from the “Green Famagusta Association”, the cases of fever, vomiting and diarrhoea, especially among young children, have been increased in the breakaway regime lately due to the fact that the sewer waters reached the coast of occupied Cyprus. Speaking to the paper, the spokesman of the Famagusta Environment Platform, Ceyhun Uniter, underlined that, many places are in danger for infection. He also stated that the “government” has not taken any measures, despites the warnings made by environmental organizations and various media publications..."

... these things aren't confined by cease-fire lines.

And do you think that the RoC should take precaustions and close or strictly monitor people at the crossings? Or is that too much to ask?
