Real Events of the Cyprus Problem

Postby Lordo » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:03 pm

As there is so much cloud over who did what and so little information of the history books regarding Cyprus History between 1959 and 1974, perhaps we can clarify and get to the root of it all.

One event which took place was the elections in 1959 where Akel got 35% of the vote which was about the same as Eoka and yet they ended up with 5 seats where as Eoka got 30.

Can anybody explain this little anomaly?

Which month in 1960 did Lyssarides set up his armed gang.

While we are at it, does anybody know why Georgadjis visited Greece in March 1961 when returning from London?

Yes due to the TCs demand of a 5:1 ratio we had to give the seats to the TCs, so 25 TCs 5 EOKA and 5AKEL.

does that answer your question???? And you want to share, yeah ok, 1 for me 5 for you, thats your idea of share FFS.

Dunno about Cyprus but in the UK its to do with the margin by which parties win in particular constituencies. For example one party wins half the seats by huge majorities but the other wins half with only small majorities, I'm sure you can figure the rest out yourself, its an anomaly of the voting system, nothing to do with what you are suggesting.

Considering We have a proportional representative system split over the 6 main population areas, how on earth can this be other than total disregard for the votes of the Cypriot people.

The first election in 1960 (not 1959) was not by proportional representation.
