Diamond Jubilee and Evagoras Pallikarides

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I'm going to be crude so if you're a soft-cock (banananiot I'm looking at you) don't read on.

For her diamond jubilee I'd like to give the queen a diamond studded dildo and tell her to stick it where we all know where and twist it as a symobolism of the all the people the monarchy and UK has screwed in its history.

It's a bloody disgrace how Grivas and EOKA have been demonized thanks to the Lefty Ephialtes in both Greece and Cyprus. It doesn't matter if it was about enosi or independence, they were fighting against imperialism. If they were commies or pinkos, today the Greek Lefty Ephialtes would immortalize them and Grivas' image would be on par with that of Che Guevara on their t-shirts. Because they were patriots, they've now been unfairly branded as "fascists". Seriously, the sheer hypocrisy. They were fighting for Hellenism and Cyprus not some foreign ideology. Even with EOKA-B. If there was no taksim and TMT there wouldn't have been an EOKA-B. In Greece, Papagos repelled the Italian invasion in 1940 but because he was right-wing acknowledging this has become a taboo. But yet the Ephialtes of DSA, who signed an agreement to partition Greece with Tito, are considered heroes. It's the same with Metaxas. Okay, he was a dictator and a wanna-be fascist. But his regime was no where as oppressive as the other totalitarians in Europe. He actually introduced many reforms regaring workers rights and conditions as well as setting up IKA. And he said the famous OXI to Mussolini. But of course today in Greece, oh no, he can't be mentioned positively. KKE and Syriza continuously make references to Metaxa in the negative when their much maligned word of "reform" is mentioned. And yet how many Lefty Ephialtes have declared the erection of statues of Ataturk in Greece, such as that mayor of Thessaloniki. Even a few years ago, the Greek Greens wanted to name the main road in that city after Ataturk. Don't worry about Greece's environment, show your true Greek lefty colours by saying things to gain applause by right-wing Turks. If anyone mentions erecting a statue of Grivas, Metaxas or Papagos in Greece, KKE and Syriza will threaten to burn down Athens. Yet, mentioning a statue of Ataturk, a brutal and extreme right-wing dicator, will be met with cheers by them.

But I also find it necessary to remind our members of another event that marked Cyprus the day of the coronation and was triggered by it:

On June 2nd 1953, Evagoras Pallikarides, age 15, starts his anti-British/pro Enosis activities by bringing down and ripping to pieces the British Flag which was flying in his school in Paphos. His act triggers student demonstrations against Britain in the whole of Paphos. Paphos thus becomes the only place in the Commonwealth were celebrations for the Crowning of the new Queen did not take place.

Pallikarides was arrested but let free due to his age.

About the motives for his action he writes:
"…. Στην Κύπρο την αθάνατη,
την Κύπρο τη γενναία
είναι καιρός να στήσουμε
Ελληνική σημαία."
(It’s time to raise the Greek flag in immortal and beautiful Cyprus).
………………..
An excellent student, athlete and poet. In a poem to his sweetheart he expresses his love for her but also for Greece at the same time (“…It is you and Greece I love…”).

When he decided to join EOKA he left to his class mates his most known poem «Θα πάρω μιάν ανηφοριά θα πάρω μονοπάτια, να βρώ τα σκαλοπάτια πού παν στη Λευθεριά…….» (“I will take an uphill road I will follow paths to find the steps which lead to freedom”).
Read all.

Pallikarides fought for a year before being apprehended (in December 1986) with a gun illegally in his possession — a hanging crime under British anti-terrorism laws, but as Pallikarides was just the ninth (and last) EOKA man executed, it seems plain that law was not receiving draconian enforcement. At least one author claims that the authorities threw the book at him on the gun charge because of a murder they believed he committed as a guerrilla but could not prove.
The fact that he turned 19 a fortnight before his execution likewise did not avail him clemency — as the young rebel predicted in court:
(During his trial he rejected the appointment of defence attorneys and he admitted guilty as charged. He tells the judge: “I know you will hang me. I acted as a Greek Cypriot who seeks his freedom. That is all.”)
He is sentenced to death by Hanging. Many prominent Cypriots and foreigners ask the British government to grant him pardon. All petitions are rejected by Marshal Harding and the British government (the royal prerogative of mercy)

A few days prior to his execution, he finishes his last short note with these words:
“……..It’s a good thing to die for Greece. The time is 7:30. The most beautiful day of my life. The most beautiful time. Don’t ask why.”
To his parents and relatives who visit him prior to his execution: He asks them not to grief and morn for…..
“… I gave an oath, to die for my country and I kept my oath”.

I wonder. Was Pallikarides a Greek or just a “Greek wannabe”?

...he was a Person, Greece existed, Turkey existed, and so did England, but Cyprus did not; he is Greek, but only time would have told us if he was "Greek", his life was cut short by hanging. in my opinion he is a Hero for Cypriots given the time he lived in. he represents the will to end subjugation as an Individual, in that regard he is a hero to any Persons oppressed.

...again the flag, i remember Solomou.

...regretfully, as this State matures, the Cypriot Flag will be implicated in unneccessary death, will that be the cause which galvanises all its People under it?

He was a true Cypriot, a real hero who gave his life for a free Greek Cyprus.

he was an Enosis loving terrorist scumbag who did not die for anything free about Cyprus but to give it to another foreign country, Greece.

When your children reach the age of 15 years old, and if they are of such genius mentality such that they exert a love for their country and a belief in freedom which then condemns them to death a few years later - I shall come and remind you of your above words on what Imperialists think of such freedom fighters! Scumbag.

Meanwhile ...

Genius? or deluded, more like it, in the case of the Enosis lovers.

Those who ridiculed you "mighty" (my ar*...) Empire back in the 50's??

Thanks for the clarification about the nature of your coming back at me. I had seen references to Kuru on the prowl looking for Bananiot and GR so was not sure if you were planning the same.
