The president of the European Parliament has linked the resolution of Turkey’s Kurdish issue to its eventual accession to membership in the European Union.

“My advice is given in the framework Turkey’s of pre-EU accession strategy: We must try to convince both sides that it is possible [to create something] between a sovereign state and [a region] with a high degree of autonomy while [maintaining] the … territorial integrity of the country. That is my humble advice,” Martin Schulz, European Parliament president, said yesterday in Istanbul. Schulz was speaking at a ceremony at Bilgi University at which he was awarded an honorary doctorate.

This is how I envisage the basic provisions of the Annan Plan for Turkey:

1. Turkey will become a Bizonal/Bicommunal federation
2. It will consist of the Turkish constituent state and the Kurdish constituent state.
3. It will have a rotating presidency between a Turk and a Kurd.
4. The representation in the government and the legislative bodies etc should be 60/40 (regardless of the fact that the Kurds are only 25% of the population. They get a 15% bonus).
5. The Kurds will have a veto right on all important issues of internal and external policies.
6. The Turkish state, as we know it today will stop existing. A new one will start new, from scratch and it's name will be Tur-Kur stan.
7. The new state will have to adopt a new flag and give up the current one which is Greek any way

Turkey's oppressive and racist policies towards the Kurds is working against them. At some point the Kurds will be a majority in Turkey. The Turks seem unaware they are sitting on a timebomb...

Turkey’s Kurdish policy: sleepwalking to crisis
Turkey’s intense state-building nationalism might be Kemalism’s most enduring, and destructive, legacy. The consequence is that the Turkish republic’s leaders, regardless of their political hue, have seemed unable constructively to address their country’s most serious challenge. Turkey appears to be sleepwalking into an ever deeper domestic Kurdish quagmire, and is showing precious few signs that it is able to recognise where this could lead it.
