I'd rather take my chances with the snakes than the cars!

If I were you I'd take a flash light. I don't recall seeing any lights in the tunnel and if they were ever in there they've probably been broken by now.

It is hardly the M4 is it...?

I see people crossing it every time I drive to Pafos....

OK - thanks johbee. The underpass certainly makes the process less stressful. But like you, I've never noticed lighting.

It's such a long and narrow tunnel though, I really don't fancy using a torch. The road might be quieter at night for crossing. The moon's waxing at the moment.

Yes, Cap, my dear - that's the tunnel I mean. :D The flashlight looks good - but you don't really need it during the day. But thanks, I can see the roof and there are definitely no lights for night time.

- Is the embankment still easy to come down if you use the road over? - Haven't clambered down that way in years; should be OK for me but my friend might be wearing her Jimmy Choo sparkly sandals.

Try from Cathedral Quarry in Little Langdale through to Tilberthwaite -without a lamp - about 150m of main Tunnel which curves so is well dark in the middle and with a 20m side tunnel - quite fun without a torch - put your on the roof to find the bumps and you are OK!

You should try some of the caves squeezed through as a younger and slimmer man in the Dales, Stud... err... perhaps you have.

Did a bit of speiling in the Mendips, nothing two serious and not much "oop north" except in show caves - I was more a man for the summits. Spent a lot of weekends in the Lake District in the 20 years from 80-to 00 I lived in Sunderland.
