Postby boomerang » Tue May 29, 2012 4:07 pm

how can cyprus and us cypriots isolate ourselves from this reziliki...as soon as you say you are "greek" cypriot you be seen as a person coming from a corrupt country...then you need to explain no i come from a different country etc, etc...

i hate to be ing to justify myself to anyone...not alone to be seen as guilty...

eginame rezili...not only they just about finished our economy, but this is too much...

so for the wise greeks out, if everyone else was ganging up on greece why did greece ganged up on us and ruined our economy?...

who are we blame here?...the frenchie, the german?...who?...anyone but the greeks huh?...

In the UK, I too have exaclty the same problem with people thinking Cyprus is part of Greece and have to spend ages explaining to them that Cyprus is an idependent country.

I think it happened when the RoC started using the Euro and with all the flags of Greece dotted all over the place some visitors put two and two together and got five thinking it's the same country.

It might change if Greece has to revert to the drachma.

Native Cypriots are Greek. If you don't want to be Greek then you can't be native Cypriot either. So immigrate from Cyprus to a non-Greek country and claim that you are not Greek ... oh wait ... you already did  So whats your problem now foreigner?

No problem at all, only pointing out that Cyprus is not part of Greece to the ignorant.

On top of this the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Cyprus is not part of the Church of Greece either.

I'd have thought natives of Cyprus were CYPRIOTS by definition.

But some native Cypriots also claim to be Turkish and indeed the DNA suggests common Ancestry which probabaly does not involve descent from what is now Greece but probably from what is now Turkey whereby the majority of Cypriots are probabaly mostly descended from Anatolian settlers, albeit probabaly from about 5000 years back which is long before anything that we could recognise as either Greek or Turkish in any way shape or form existed, plus a few genes from the various invaders and passing merchants since then.
