It used to be toast with black olives scraped over it instead of butter.

Actually, I remember my aunt used to save the fat from cooking, let it solidify, and then spread that on bread and sprinkle a load of sugar over it to make us eat it.

'Bread and dripping', a traditional English delicacy (without the sugar).
