...evolution (not!), noah's ark.

Postby repulsewarrior » Fri May 25, 2012 7:19 pm

stumbled upon this bit of info...

...is it true?

The government of Cyprus is putting Noah’s Ark in school biology textbooks (granted, it’s not explicitly presented as a fact), and they’re also completely leaving out evolution.

http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/people-of-cyprus-rise-up-against-noahs-ark-in-your-biology-textbooks/

...see the page in question,

Marc’s translation of the above:

Bubble 1:
According to the Book of Genesis from the Old Testament (2: 15, 19-20), God:
a) asked Adam to cultivate and protect the Garden of Eden, and
b) brought to him every living entity, so he can name them.
Think of why Adam’s action in naming all the organisms was an important prerequisite allowing him to cultivate and protect the garden.

Bubble 2:
Noah continued Adam’s work, preserving all the living organisms that would be endangered by the waters of the cataclysm.
Therefore, in modern terms, Noah protected the biodiversity of our planet.
Think of what you can do today to protect the living organisms of our planet.

...and other facts about Cyprus, and Faith.

...on a positive note, at least it extols our responsibility toward this planet.

I am afraid it is. The mentality of the Middle Ages reigns supreme. Worse, the Association Of Biology Teachers has condoned it. Nothing wrong with it, they said and also condoned the bit on sex outside marriage that stirred an outrage here in this plantation.

Until this year evolution was not taught. Now they have decided to teach it, but in a ... theological manner.

Bill, in one classroom in a Gymnasium in Larnaca, I once counted 13 icons of saints. Almost as many as in a small church.

...sadly, the USA and Turkey, are more apt to believe this Bible story as fact, denying the possibility that it has a greater lesson as an allegory.

...speaking of the list, where is Russia, Israel and Canada, on it?

...religions are like other dangerous forces when they seek to prosper politically, they may subject their thinking on the whole because of their power and numbers, they are not keepers of any Faith in this regard, but their own doctrine.

Most high school biology teachers (anywhere) don't know enough about evolution to do it justice and they should stick to teaching the basics.
