I´ve heard this rumour that Ikea will open in Nicosia, anyone knows if this is true?

Wouldn´t be a day too soon in my opinion :)

Would be a sad day for Cyprus, in mine. Think of all the hundreds of already-rocky furniture shops going down the drain and the unemployment figures.

IKEA in cyprus is true. Not sure where, but nicosia would be the obvious choice.

They are advertising for staff in the Fileleftheros newspaper on wednesdays.

So i guess we could now be considered as true europeans euh ??????

Oh Gods nooooooooooo!

The one and only time i went to ikea I felt so claustrophobic that I wanted to scream.

Unfortunately to get out of these horrendous stores one has to follow the yellow path to it's end.

During my panicked flight to the exit I observed blank-eyed shoppers milling around looking longingly at the range of tat on sale, I wonder if the store is flooded with a subtle narcotic gas that takes effect the longer one stays in the store and induces people to buy.

Whatever make Cyprus more European it is good! I know Cyprus is small with plenty of furniture shops but thats how the market operates; the stronger will survive like the LAW of Jungle!

Thanks for the info, pantheman :)

And devil.....i can understand your opinion, however, a chain like this isn´t a day too soon to open in cyprus. And about the rocky furniture shops....did u ever think about why? Because they often set the prices too high, for normal or low income-takers. This means, that the cypriot now has a choice where to buy furniture and many other items. Not everybody will go there..but at least now, there is an alternative. And about the figures....did u think of how many job oppurtunities ikea will create? I think it´t about an healthy and pretty normal competition, good for the possible consumers and finally a big chain has found it´s way to Cyprus. Makes me hope and wonder when H&M will do the same.

And davidp.....lol :D To some extent i agree...but thats just small details....guess i might see Hazza around then, and not u! :D

I am glad Ikea is opening branches in Cyprus! Although there are plenty of furniture shops in Cyprus I still believe that they set the prices too high for the average houshold income. They only exception is Superhome.

I bought a desk and a chair 5 years ago and now with that price I could have bought 3 desks and chairs from a well known store!Greater competition is welcomed!

I bought 2 office chairs from Superhome - not the most expensive but not the cheapest either. After about 1 year, the castors started to break apart. I went to Superhome to get new ones. What a Joke ! I was told that someone must sell castors but he couldn't say where: no they didn't stock them. I'll bet Ikea would have supplied replacements, though.

Anyway we learnt our lesson - no furniture from Superhome :(

I worked in Ikea for 2 years during my studies and ambience in that market seemed to be very likeable.
May be I'm accustomed to hyper, super, mega...space market

Now we have a few pieces of furniture from Ikea and we are very satisfied. Thanks to Ikea we don't sleep on the carpet  and don't have TV staying on the carton case :)
