Opened parcel from Post Office

Postby IPL » Mon May 21, 2012 11:03 am

Hi all,

I just got a parcel from the UK and the envelope had been opened and the contents of the parcel are missing. In essence, I received an open, empty envelope. This was sent from an ebay seller.

Naturally, I want to complain to the post office for receiving an empty envelope with the goods missing. Do you know how to go about it?

Thanks

you are a victim of a fraud over ebay ,i received an empty box with no laptop on it only some newspaper ,mine was send even registered i open dispute over paypal and due to the receipt that it was registered the seller won the case and i stuck with a loss.in your position if the seller send you an empty envelope not registered you will win the case
also note that on post office they dont open parcels as there is a danger to loose their jobs, and there is a high level of security over here in cy in those matters first check the ebay seller

I would agree with you but the envelope was already opened when I received it. I am very experienced with ebay purchases and never had to deal with something like this. The parcel was 'tracked' (there is a barcode on it with this word) but there is no tracking number on it.

Also, the seller seemed very trustworthy from the feedback he's received so not suspecting him at the moment.

I am told there are ways of faking feed-back.

Yes but the item was worth around 15 pounds so wasn't worth scamming me.

Also, he's been a seller for a year.

Ask at the post office??

They are bound to have a form for this.

Parcels are never delivered to me to my home when they are send with regular post. Instead I receive a note and I go to pick them up myself from the post office... and if they would try to give me an open empty parcel I would obviously not accept it. Did they deliver the parcel to your home? Only when using UPS and similar services are parcels delivered directly to me and in that case I have to accept the parcel personally so no way they could give to me an open empty parcel!

All parcels are delivered to my work since I am never at home during working hours. The company messenger picks up all mail and delivers it to the company so he received it without checking it first (all mail is handed to him in a box). I checked with the post office and they said that if I hadn't received it then maybe I could have formed a complaint but since I (ie the messenger) received it, then there is nothing they can do.

In that case I don't think there is much you can do since the messenger accepted the opened empty parcel. Do you trust the messenger? Is there any chance that he opened your parcel? Or maybe the messenger didn't bring the parcel directly to you from the post office and he instead left it somewhere and somebody else took your item?
