Christofias won't run for 2nd term

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Christofias won't run for 2nd term

Postby Lit » Mon May 14, 2012 4:37 pm

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) – Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias says he will not seek re-election for a second term because there is little hope that long-running talks with breakaway Turkish Cypriots to reunify the ethnically split island will succeed when his tenure expires in February next year.

Probably the best decision he has made so far. However he also knows that he will not get re-elected, that's the main reason. Hopefully there will be a genuine choice at the next election. So who are the likely contenders then?

Once again he did not tell the truth. In 2004 he "voted no to cement yes" and now he sites the wrong reasons to justify his decision not to run. He is the first President that does not stand for re-election since the RoC came into existence.

Why is it do you think that he could not agree a solution?

Was his election also someone elses fault?

Because the Greek Cypriots would not let him hand Cyprus over to Turkey on a platter.

I think the GC people should be more worried about Anastasiades, who would be guaranteed to sell us out.
