Olympian Torch Coming Home ...

Postby bill cobbett » Thu May 10, 2012 7:10 pm

The Olympian Torch will be paraded through the streets of Much Wenlock, Shropshire, England on 30 May 2012 before continuing on its journey to London.

As you will all know... Much Wenlock is the Spiritual Home of the Modern Olympian Games Movement with Games having being held in the town every year (bar the War Years) since 1850 under the leadership of the Great Victorian promoter of the benefits of amateur sports and friendly athletic competition, Dr. William Penny Brookes.

In the light of the London Games this year, this year's Wenlock Olympian Games (from 8-22 July) will be extra special with more events than ever being held.

Here we are...

The mascots for the 2012 London Games.

The one on the left is called Wenlock and the one on the right is Mandeville...

(aren't they cute?)

Oh,... thought you'd be pleased.

Have to admit though, they're an improvement on this dodgy and very unimaginative pair...

My very successful Graphic Designer friend (English) rated those very highly actually! They caught the mood of the moment (shame the UK can only copy and steal by stealth, even years later ...).
