Why TCs Prefer to Shop in the Free Areas

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Well I wonder why JCC says Greek Cypriots then?

Maybe they don't know the difference between obvious names on cards, like Costas or Andrew or Mohammed?

Which of course they do, that's why they say Greek Cypriot spending !

They also don't seem to give a toss about using their cards, so not exactly hiding the fact. Given this information from JCC based in Nicosia they add that it's only a percentage as many use cash. :o

The link you gave was not from JCC but from some unknown "CyprusUpdates" website which gives no link to the original source.

Such results are coming from a database query on their systems... not by having employees looking at the transactions one by one and then deciding based on the name the ethnicity of the person who made each transaction  Their computer systems do not have the ability to understand the difference based on names ;) At most there would be a "citizenship" field in the database which they could use ... but even then the result would not be just Greek Cypriots.

Actually you're wrong about how JCC catergorise their data, and what they actually know. But that's a side issue! Plus there are much less expats here, only about 25000 most of them in Paphos miles from the crossings! The majority are GCs and of course it's a well known 'secret' that many cross over, and why shouldn't they?

http://www.financialmirror.com/news-det ... ?nid=25858

It seems they think the spending is less.

The Famagusta Gazette which I'm sure no on here ever links to as its c**p says similar. Other than that their are more websites. But the news was released in April.

But you believe what makes your boat float, some of us are a bit less blinkered.

Have a pleasant day.

If you want to make a point then you should link directly to announcements published by JCC not to some random guesses of those who don't know what they talk about ;) The data you give is not even consistent with each other. There is no secret at all... those GCs that visit the occupied areas often are criminals of the underworld who go there for the casinos and to buy things that are illegal in the free part of Cyprus... plus some idiots (lets not mention any names). The rest GCs would go there from rarely to never. I never went there and I didn't give even a single cent to the invaders.

JCC NEVER made any such announcement. It is Sapienta economics who tried to analyze data that JCC released. Sapienta;s analysts just wondered if those money were indeed spent by Kypreoi. And they themselves admitted they DON'T KNOW!!
The same story gets repeated all over again ever since 2010 and gets distorted in various web sites.

The only travel agent in the free areas that organizes excursions to religious places is Theotokos travel and as far I can see from their web site
http://www.theotokostravel.com/index.ph ... &cat_id=42

They do have 4 excursions per month during the summer TO TURKEY VIA LARNACA/ATHENS. I have never traveled in group excursions myself, if anyone has, could s/he tell us how many people are in each one?We could then make an estimate for how many people this "Theotokos" takes to turkey

PS. 1)The original article of 2010 refers to spending using plastic cards issued in the free areas, not to spending of GCs
2)Imo most of those spendings were done by Kibrislis and foreigners.
3)I don't think any sane Kypreos would ever dare give his credit card in the occupied...

During the first three months of 2012, at least 2621 Greek Cypriots travelled to Turkey via the occupied areas aboard Turkish or Turkish Cypriot airlines through the illegal Ercan airport. During that period 556000 euro was spent by credit card for purchases of airline tickets while more than one million euro was spent in casinos and other entertainment. More than 300000 euro was spent for shopping including clothing, supermarket and other household goods while over 700000 were spent at hotels.

Keep in mind that these figures don’t take into account cash payments but only expenditure made using credit cards meaning the actual values are much higher."

Can Greek Cypriot travel to Turkey on RoC passports?

After all, Turkey does not recognise the RoC, so are these GCs using passports from another country, in which case, they would be considered nationals from another country, even if they are GCs born in Cyprus!

GCs do travel to Turkey on RoC passports, ask the Turks why they accept them.
