...maybe Turkey thinks she has a friend in China, when it comes to exploiting these riches, maybe Erdogan thinks that the Arabs will rally around him given that Israel is involved against him; maybe Russia will involve itself with the USA, along with the EU, militarily.

I am afraid that some such messages have started being conveyed already (Crisis Group and others). Bill posted some weeks ago something about an American deputy minister having said something towards this direction (share and don't fight etc) in a conference in Athens. I will find it and repost it unless Bill bits me to it.
