Visiting Cyprus as a Schengen Visa Holder

Postby khan200us » Mon Apr 30, 2012 2:07 am

Hello

I am a Pakistani citizen studying a Master Degree in Engineering in Finland and have held a Schengen visa for 2 years. It is due for renewal on 1 July 2012.

I have some savings that I want to invest in a good Cypriot bank and have contacted Bank of Cyprus and Privat bank(The Ukrainian Bank). They both want me to visit Cyprus to open a deposit account. I understand that the Schengen visa holders do not need a visa for tourism to enter Cyprus as long as their Schengen visa is valid. Right?

I am planning to visit Larnaca on the first week of June 2012. Any problems you think?

Please suggest me some good bank accounts with higher interest rates. My savings to put aside are about €30,000

Best Regards
Khan

As you may know CY is not in the Schengen area.

Have a look at these links at the CY Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You may find the answer there, but my feeling is that a Schengen visa won't apply...

I do believe the ROC although not a signatory to the Schengen Agreement do allow people with this type of visa to enter Cyprus though under specific circumstances and as you rightly pointed out the requirements are available on the ROC Ministry web Site

Yes from memory agree, but couldn't find the detail on the requirements on the Republic's site... well at least in the two or three minutes was looking.

Hello

In the attached pdf file which is taken from the Embassy of Cyprus in Finland, it is written that Schengen visa holders do not need a visa to enter Cyprus for the duration of their visas.

Still it is not in very clear words and I do not want to take any risks. I tried to call their embassy several times to confirm this information but they do not pick up the phone. Typical bureaucratic and their ignorant attitude.

I am planning to fly with a print out copy of this pdf document. Any suggestions or advice from you will be highly appreciated.

Best Regards

Khan, is it not possibloe to visit the Cyprus High Commission in person. They are the most lazy bastards the world over, you cannot even get a reply when you call a Nicosia number from within Cyprus. They are the cancer of this country.
Calling or email Cypriot covernment office is 99.9% guaranteed you will get no response and if they did answer the phone they would give you the run around.
Good luck.

I do believe he tried calling the embassy in Helsinki, but they appear to be the same kind of lazy bastards, though

But why on earth would you invest in CY? With low interest in the EU-region for years to come and the Euro heading south... If you look a little west from where you are, you'll find two countries with a more potent currency AND higher interest. They even belong to the Schengen zone.

I didn't realise Cyprus was situated in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Are we that close to Greece? :D

You will learn very quickly my friend that never mind where Cyprus is situated, the whole world is divided into two camps. Friends of Cyprus and the enemies, despite that fact that 99% of the world does not even know where Cyprus is.

Talk of superiority complex
this is not just a chip onthe shoulder
it is a Cyprus potato size of a boulder

Now where is Cyprus again, black sea was it or the dead sea?
