I didn't ask you to send him my regards.
I asked you to tell him to make up his mind with what he wants to do regarding the solution of the Cyprus problem and Papadopoullos proposals.

Shouldnt you talk to Papadop first? so that we all know what he wants and tell him to let the UN know as well as they seem to be in the dark like the rest of us

Talat has been clear in what he wants. the Annan plan plus a return to negotiate GCs and TCs concerns making adjustment to accomodate these without changing the essence of the overall plan thus not loosing the YES of the TCs which trying to obtain a GC YES.

The Annan plan is DEAD because MAJOR revisions would need to be made to it to get more than 50% of the GCs to say yes.

For example, giving the TCs 29% of Cyprus is a redline for many GCs. Turkey did not act as a guarantor to keep the peace. No country TRULY acting in its capacity as a guarantor would still be there 31 years later. TURKEY IS AN OCCUPIER OF THE LAND IT INVADED.

Do you agree Turkey stopped intercommunial killings of innocent TCs and GCs? an end to the Enosis dream?? and end to intercommunal inability to govern themselves without discrimination and persecution?? have we had any problems since 1974 on the scale of the 50s 60s 70s??
Do we now in 2005, supposedly with more educated and unblinkered vision trust each other enough to commit to a solution? The old mechanisms of of Cypriot stubborness and inability to share Cyprus is still very evident although the South claims to have more European values which even the EU question they still persue the attitude of non compromise and lack of vision to move closer to a community in the north and work out their own problems, the EU leverage game appears to be the way forward for your leadership, let see what will develop as the process of Turkish accession will be long hard and drawn out with no guarantee of entry, what does this hold for Cyprus as a whole? A slow train to nowhere??

Viewpoint,
The sooner you and the rest of the TCs who share the same philosophy like you, change your philosophy that is based on the ottoman mentality, the better for all of us and more specifically for your community. The Ottoman Empire is over Viewpoint. Stop living with past glories and fantasies!

And when Kemal Atatürk spelled out the famous slogan "one Turk equals the whole world," he was either joking or he was drunk! You do not necessarily have to take it for granted.

Rather than usuing your automatic rehtoric of belittilng and demoting what TCs think and say, try addressing issues with honesty. Move away from your cob webbed mentality of the 60s and take a few steps forward and surely TCs will meet you half way. Your arguements are based on firstly downgrading anything we have to say then churning out a barrage of utter rubbish which may impress some but not me.
Your whole arguements are based on materialistic loss and how you intend to get it back and what you will make out of it. Well in your case your land has been used so you have very little chance of getting any land back but I do sincerely hope you get lots and lots of money/compensation as this appears to be your real aim.

crap! Turkey pushed forward the work of the TMT, who were just as guilty for the air of violance in Cyprus as EOKA B. Besides, Turkey killed more GC in the summer of 1974 then the whole number of TC deaths during intercommunal violance of the previous decade.

Do you know how many Turkish soldiers were killed in 1974???

The numbers game does not warrant if any side is wrong or right, war is a last resort to resolving a conflict.

Have you had any major problems since 1974 on the scale of previous years? please answer honestly and refrain from personal insult.

Those Greeks were soldiers and died as a result of war. Those T.Cs were civilians and were murdered and burried into mass graves by the cold blooded EOKA B terrorists. Let's draw the line!

I think this sad story sums up the whole Cyprus conflict

hey birkibrisli

i will disagree with you completely on this one

i think that it is a beautiful story
not sad but on the contrary...

they didnt trust indeed
but they didnt shoot either

it takes a lot of guts to resist the influence of your environment.
or
it takes a real friendship

plus the fact that they forgave each other
that they were honest to each other (even in the very end)
it is a sign that we can manage.

i mean it could be easy to kill someone under certain conditions
but under what conditions does someone kill a friend?

Hello,Cypezokyli,Sorry it took me a while to respond.I often go on business trips away from home, and have little time for internet cafes.
I suppose yours is the optimistic look at this. You are right, theirs was a beautiful friendship, and I think my mother was right, they loved each other like brothers.I saw Mother on the weekend(she lives 1.5 hours away from me by car) and probed her on this story. She said on a few occasions they risked everything they owned to get the other out of financial trouble, even your brother won't do that for you readily.
Still,it troubles me that they demons messing with their minds, but they were the product of their times I suppose.I am glad you liked the story.
