I believe that this is an attrocious crime and those responsible should be punished.

However, reading halil's posts one would think that the Turks have not vandalised thousands of Churches in theoccupied areas. Turkish hypocrites at its best.

Halikl in reading your response to bill on the post above, firstly I will direct you to reading some of the old newspaper articles and stories about how the TC's and the TA treated the enclaved, then come back and tell us about your duly behaviour. And take reposnibility about the number of churches and cemetaries you have destroyed.

Give us a brake halily mongol. We all know by now that whenever such incidents occur, your f*ng TMT lot is behind them. So What the f* are you trying to prove this time? That we, the savage GCs are trying to... exterminate the TCs? And that, therefore, we should not take up the EU presidency? And that, maybe, Turkey should be allowed to annex the north in order to save it from our barbarocity? Or at least the north should be recognized as an independent state so as to be secure.
halily boy, go bed down with your Mongol brothers and sisters or bosses or whatever and let us be. In plain words, go F* yourself. Will YA?

In 1963, with Denktash still leading it, the TMT planted a bomb outside the Turkish consulate in Nicosia, an incident blamed on Greek Cypriots and which led to Turkish attacks on neighbouring Greek shops and homes. Widespread intercommunal violence followed and, as Denktash hoped it would, the tension fostered a siege mentality among the outnumbered Turkish Cypriots. Guided by Denktash, they proceeded to break off all political, social and economic relations with Greek Cypriots and retreated into armed enclaves, from where they sought to challenge the authority of the Republic of Cyprus and provoke clashes with government forces, all in the hope of creating a crisis and providing a pretext for Turkey to invade and partition Cyprus.

The Turkish Armed Forces’ Special War Department is also believed to be responsible for Turkey’s Bloody Mayday, when 34 died after unknown assailants opened fire on large crowds celebrating Labor Day in the Taksim Square. The 1978 Maraş and 1980 Çorum pogroms against Alevis in these towns are also believed to be the work of this unit. The Sivas massacre of 1993 July 12 – when 36 writers visiting Sivas with atheist writer Aziz Nesin were burnt to death in their hotel by an angry religious fundamentalist mob – is also believed to have been organized by the Special War Department or other similar units inside the military.
