Why was Britain defeated by EOKA?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Mr Ed
Humanist, your grandfather was a true hero who freed Cyprus from colonial rule.

So I take it VP that if Cyprus was 82% TC and 18% GC, Cyprus would still be a British Colony, unless TC terrorists fought to free it?

Yes he was and so were all the EOKA fighters and I don't give a hoot what a racist Turk who believes in taking from others what he thinks.

All terrorists....and you support them.

Much better than a GC state with us a minority.

Briefing for the British Defence and Overseas Policy Committee, 27th April 1964 :

"The only two solutions which could bring peace and order to Cyprus are enosis or the establishment of a unitary Republic dominated by the Greek-Cypriot majority."

And what did they do support the TCs.

Who do you mean should "support" the TCs? EOKA 1955-1959? Are you joking? How could they "help" the TCs when the TCs had sided with the Brits and were burning and looting Greek properties and attacking unarmed GCs? I suggest you read all the previous posts on this issue including confessions of Denktash and other prominent TCs but also foreign observers and historians.

Your ultimate goal has always been enosis, the Brits Turks and Tcs could see right through this....the Brits were first and then the TC would follow..so of course the TCs sided with the Brits stop you giving the whole island to Greece and fight for their own survival..what did you expect us to side with you and sign our own death warrant? noway...what you didnt allow for was that while you were taunting the TCs that Turkey would never come save them....guess what they did and to boot they swept you back into 63% of the island.

If it wasn't for the help they got from the US and the UK and if the US had not stopped Greece from helping Cyprus in 1974 with its navy (submarines type 209) and air force ("Aphrodite 2") Turkey would still be fishing bodies from the bottom of the north sea of Cyprus. And the TCs would be EU citizens todayinstead of slaves to the Anatolians.

Spoken like a true Greek Kimon. If it wasn't for the Great powers that defeated the Ottoman fleet in 1827 there would be no Greece today. Such arguments feed the stupidity of those that are determine to hold progress.

Do I have the right to rule my own country, my own airport or administer my own area just like you?

Yes, some out-of-the-box thinking is required as both partition and any solutions giving privilege based on ethnicity are out of the question, especially in this day and age (post apartheid South Africa).

What is required is the Cypriotization of Cyprus which should be led by the RoC and formed of a delegation of Cypriots from both sides of the divide to define the following:

1) what it is to be a Cypriot including culture and cuisine etc.
2) a set of values that identifies us as Cypriots.
3) a new flag
4) a new national anthem

These should then be implemented by the RoC, with the removal of the flags of foreign countries as a symbol of the RoC and the replacement of the national anthem.

The display of other flags will be acceptable in places of worship and other specially defined establishments, but banned in Government buildings.

If an establishment, such as a Hotel, wishes to display the flag of Greece, the flag of Turkey must also be displayed along side it and vice-versa.

Affirmation of a visible Cypriot identity by the RoC will then give the TCs trapped in the occupied areas something to aspire to and to eventually join maintream Cypriot society as equal Cypriots and EU citizens.
