I applaud the EOKA fighters for persevering to FREE Cyprus from the ruling British Colonialists. The rest is history and the movement shall not die. I am proud that my grandfather was a fighter in the 50's.

The countdown for the calamity for Cyprus started on April 1st 1955, when EOKA exploded the first bombs. It was an act doomed to fail, but as the title of this thread shows, some people still believe, even with the benefit of hindsight, that EOKA defeated Britain.

Humanist, your grandfather was a true hero who freed Cyprus from colonial rule.

So I take it VP that if Cyprus was 82% TC and 18% GC, Cyprus would still be a British Colony, unless TC terrorists fought to free it?

...indeed, if the British had supported the Cypriot people with water, electricity and roads, things might have been different.

it took a struggle for liberation, and then the drive of the Cypriot people themselves to have such basic modern utilities.

...at least the Brits left us as a legacy a Rule of Law, for which we can be thankful.

Briefing for the British Defence and Overseas Policy Committee, 27th April 1964 :

"The only two solutions which could bring peace and order to Cyprus are enosis or the establishment of a unitary Republic dominated by the Greek-Cypriot majority."
