Why was Britain defeated by EOKA?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Fuck the Queen and fuck the imperialist pigs in their bases in Cyprus. Colonialist pigs who slaughtered Cypriots and sowed the seeds of war and invasion.

Pity you weren't as brave when the ill trained, ill equipped Turkish conscripts arrived in 74, did you say all those naughty bugger words to them?

Cyprus has belonged to so many different nationalities down the centuries including the English during the crusades, look at the Kollossi and Paphos castles. Berengaria was named after Richard The Lionheart's Queen. Cyprus has been passed around like a second hand car/woman even back to Cleopatra.

Subtract a further area of 346 km2 from the free areas (UN-BZ), and we are only left with 5300 km2.

That UN Buffer Zone sign is only in English and Greek.

Interesting...I guess it doesn't apply to TCs. :?

I don't know which way it was facing, but could it be sending some (other) message? (Turkish should be dropped altogether.)

- After all, the TCs are in no danger if they stray into the free areas (so they don't need a 'warning') - it's the poor GCs who get shot, abducted or battered to death if they should pass into the occupied areas.

What do you mean (harping?)

I was and I am against the Annan Plan 5 and any other one with similar provisions as that, like the new one the are trying to impose on us now while Christofias is in office.

So Don, you are saying that GC's are Arabs. Kimon thinks that TC's are Mongols, and Junior Francis, my black badminton doubles partner called himself English. Can we consider the possibility that we are all humans (except the fascists of course)?

That's the best option by far !!

However, even if you shouted it , printed it, proved It or screamed it from the rooftops I'm sure you'd get nowhere here.

It's hard to hear , read or understand anything which would move this nation forward towards a bright future when you have-

A head stuck firmly up your own ass or the ass of some radical nationalist from the last century and you are chanting (on and on and on) the failed policies that got you this far.

For pity's sake this is the 21st century lets try and be a little enlightened ...... It's time to accept that no one is blameless ..... NO ONE !!!

All sides should accept culpability (I Do mean all) then spend time, energy and resources on reconciliation and developing a solution that benefits all Cypriots.

As a neutral that's my dearest wish for this wonderful island, unfortunately, all I hear is blame & recrimination where it's always the other guys fault (often going back 10's/100's/1000's of years).
Many are happier to blame the Turks/Greeks/English/Americans/Anyone other than themselves up to and including the Mycaeneans rather than say " we all fucked up and my blind bias is continuing this tragedy ..... Time I/we moved on"

Bananiot wrote:I think the most important contribution of Don here is what he said about a conscript army standing no chance at all in front of a well trained and armed professional army. Of course we stand to be accused of derailing the subject which is one of a bunch of villagers, some of the brave type some of the murderous type, led by a simpleton army spare over and a "clever" clergy man, who defeated the British Empire in 1955-1959. Now, the people who believe these fairy tales are the most patriotic forumers, who claim that they have the magic potion to free Cyprus. This type of stupid mentality has brought Cyprus to its knees,..........

To its knees? You mean, between others, independence, EU membership, EU presidency, natural gas exploitation etc I presume? I must admit though that all these achievements do seem like beautiful fairy tales. But they are not. They are today's reality.

Bsharpish - it's very easy to take the 'middle ground' and claim the moral high ground - but I'm not convinced it's as simple as that!
