hello guys and girls! this is my very first post in your forum!

I suddenly felt the urge to express my views on the Internet and since I am from Cyprus I decided to join this forum. I initially thought of starting a blog but for some reason I want to keep my "real life" separate from my "online life". I don't even have a facebook account! Actually I do, but I am not using my real name, something which is I believe a violation of their terms!

I have never been a very sociable person. I really never cared to have many real world friends, let alone 12749 facebook "friends". Connecting online seems to be all the rage these days, particularly with the newer generations. So am I weird that I don't want any of this "connecting"? Is it strange that I don't want my photos all over the internet or that I don't want to use my GPS enabled mobile to "check-in" places so 1000s of my "friends" can know where I am at any given moment?

Anyway, joining a forum with some alias and an anonymous email address seemed like the best way to say what I want online without worrying about any privacy issues. And just to be clear: I've been using the internet since 1996 and I've joined many forums but always did this to ask a question or participate in a debate and not to just ramble about things that come to my mind which are probably irrelevant to most others. I hope you don't mind if I do that here!

But since this is a forum maybe this post should pose some question. The question is: Do you actively use services such as Facebook. Do you enjoy making connections with people that you never met personally? Or do you use it just to keep in touch with family and real world friends? And also: Why are you here, in this forum?
